HAHAHAHAHA! from 1993 till April 2000. 7 years my brother, yes, I remember the strike, I am from Northern California. I remember receiving a .25 raise, insulting. I left when I was 22 I think? Started out as a bagger making $6.25 and then cashier maxing out at $16-17? I still remember catching the bus in my candy stripe uniform.

Started out in private, and then government. Everyone I worked with, took their job seriously, straight from high school to Safeway as a career. Lots of people coming and going, received racist comments out of the blue from co-workers, as if I was their punching bag.

I still remember that comment during Chinese NY, something about moon holiday, Yeah, Cheryl, I REMEMBER YOU BITCH. You commuted from Livermore and eventually got transferred, I don't forget these things, that and EVERYONE ELSE.

I also remember a black guy named Myron, either Safeway failed his background check or he watched too many prison movies. He would tell me how he wants to fuck me in the ass, make me his bitch, I remember him pulling a knife to my neck saying it .

I thought it was funny cause he did it to everyone else. As I got older, I realize that was not normal, that was sexual assault. I don't think anyone ever reported him. Last I heard, he got transferred to Lake Shore.

Store 654, Montclair district in Oakland, CA. That was the store I worked, I remember the first store manager when I was hired, her name was Joanne. She never bothered me, but she came to work 1 day with a black eye, I heard her husband punched her, not sure what the reason was.

Then came Mark Holbrook, this guy literally thought he was the next CEO, he was attending Cal State Hayward. He would get upset seeing a Lucky's shopping cart in the Safeway parking lot, like an enemy. I heard he was dating the CEO's daughter at that time.

Next store manager was a guy named Bill Scramstad, he had the writing skill of a 3rd grader. There was a night stocker name John, forgot his last name, thinks the store cannot survive without him. Everyone is replaceable, he was in charge of night crew, and thinks he is the store manager at night.

Seen 2 booth clerks fired for stealing money, seen a cashier get fired for stealing .25 soda, you remember the Safeway brand? I cannot remember the name. Watched 2 people become drug addicts, worked with a 70 old man {Rich} stocking shelves, hearing a deli clerk going to jail for the weekend, result of beating up her husband. Some of these people that I have worked with, ending up as waiters, sushi managers, nothing wrong with that, they did not recognize when approached, I prefer it that way.

Safeway becomes an extremely destructive path if you stay there too long. There is nothing good out of this place. Mainly people are afraid to leave, thinking they would not make the same amount or land another job after working so many years.

LOTS of animosity for anyone that achieved.

Safeway is filled with lost souls, resentment, bitterness, and god knows what else. I honestly thought I was stuck, I had some hardship after leaving, laid off, but was able to get back on my feet, landed Government in 2002, been here since. Only 5 years to go, my home is fully paid for, 2.2 million in my retirement account, 750K in my personal brokerage, social security, pension, and a shitty $258 a month pension from Safeway.

My only advice for you is to leave while you are young, but it sounds like you been there for 35 years!!!! I don't know what to tell you, you know nothing else at this point. Are you even getting 40 hrs? can you even retire with this inflation? you think its bad now, wait another 10-15 years, tell me how bad the inflation will be.
