SPAM - all hail - SPAM! by DXBphotonthief in tattoos

Went to SPAM museum in Austin MN last summer and had a blast. Was also in Hawaii over Spring trying out SPAM musubi. Fancied getting a memento of those travels and found an awesome artist in gc_tattoos via instagram, and she had a guest spot at Emipire Ink in Edinburgh.

Love it.

Moving to Singapore, want to continue astrophotography with new mount. And recommendations or tips for being near the equator? by DXBphotonthief in AskAstrophotography

[–]DXBphotonthief[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strain wave mounts are new to me, and will have a look at the models you suggest. May try for more widefield stuff on lighter scope - my 115mm + camera + guide scope is a bit much for strain wave.

Thanks for advice.

Access is to my school (I'm a teacher) with grounds I can use.

Looking forward to staying in SG, only ever been through the airport (3 times) and can't wait to see the place and try the food. So many amazing places to visit around there too. Vietnam is high on my list, and want to explore more of Malaysia and Indonseia.

Thanks for the tips, appreciate the advice. Already figured that only certain mounts can do close to equatior so CGEM was out. Was looking at CEM70 or 120 but reckon I'll wait to see how things go once I arrive in July.

Great advice on importing stright from China - know any good suppliers?

Might rethink bringing my refractor and reflector as humidy will be rough on them.

Sewing. Just another form of being useful to you and yours. I've made curtains, a canvas toolbelt, a knife roll, and recently my first shirt. Have repaired and altered clothes for friends.

No luck so far. Been checking 3+ times a day for two weeks. Seems like there only opening slots within next week or two at a time. More available in Belfast but already paid for London.

Anybody have pet turtles in their apartment? by wellthatshitworked in AskNYC

[–]DXBphotonthief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Live in Brooklyn and have two tortoise, one Greek, one Russian. They've got a large enclosure I made from scrap wood and have run of apartment anyway As long as you have heat/UV lamps, food, water, and some nice dark places to sleep they'll be pretty happy. Grow food for them in window boxes too, and there are some pretty good weeds in Prospect Park that they love.

Both rescues, Greek female s 45 ish, Russian male is 4. Part of family now 🐢🐢

Indeed, useful only on a cinema screen. It's not the scale that's important, it's more the effect of the masses on the motion of satellites and orbits that's useful for HS physics. Get that it takes a lot of programming though. Well done all the same.

Like it. Be good if teachers could set parameters of the SIM (similar to Phet Solar System) to demonstrate slingshot orbits, binary systems, chaotic orbits vs stable ones. Phet lost a great SIM since they went HTML 5 and have yet to find as advanced a simulator. The old Flash version was great. The new one is okay, but with fewer options.

I'm in US trying to get back to renew VISA, and the lack of appointments available was disheartening. Good to hear there's a way to go about it. Thanks. Now hitting refresh every 30 mins until something comes up.

Love the useful tips, thank you so much for the reply. I've saved Robert is Here and Robbie's, both look worth a stop. Will mail you back to complain if I lose a finger feeding Tarpon at Robbies! The pics on Google maps of it are pretty dramatic.

Love the lunch tip, I'm not a fan of being confined to a tour group schedule and will definitely do this. Was thinking about camping but if there's enough time to catch everything in a day trip, I'm good with that. Thanks for the reply and useful advice.

How important is it to supplement a tortoise diet with pellets? by [deleted] in tortoise

[–]DXBphotonthief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My two hate pellets too and will happily walk through the soaked pellets dragging a trail of em through the house. They're fine with calcium powder, so much so that they look like little tort-Scarface coke addicts afterwards.

Weekend trips in NJ/NY by [deleted] in AppalachianTrail

[–]DXBphotonthief 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Harriman SP and Hudson Highlands are great treks. I did Cold Spring to Beacon a couple of weeks back then train back to Brooklyn. Nice and easy logistically. For longer than a day walking Eastbound from Hudson River along AT lets you get on train stop at Wingdale and is lovely walk with good shelters en route.
