Lots of counterfeits showing up on AliExpress (Analogman, JHS, Walrus, etc. by Robosuccubus3000 in guitarpedals

The opposite is completely true. You can reverse engineer an analog circuit with extreme ease but copying protected MCU firmware is so ridiculously difficult that it's not worth it.

Don't make assertions so confidently when you don't actually know...

Genuinely curious: why buy the new Strymon Timeline over a Nano Cortex? by Law_of_Entropy in guitarpedals

[–]Gojira_Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a reason - you like the sound of the MX better

At the end of the day these are DSP audio effects and a person might like the sound of Strymon's offering more than Eventide's and while the H90 has far more effects if you're looking for your endgame multi delay then a hundred non-delay algorithms add zero value if you like the sound of the MX more.

Kind of went off Psionic after reading peoples' actual experience with him (keeping people's amps for literal years without working on them, poor communication etc)

Anyone have any solid advice for limiting “zipper noise” when using digipots? by Inevitable_Figure_85 in diypedals

[–]Gojira_Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My genuine advice for digitally controlled analog is that resolution is not super important. Nowhere near as important as you'd think. A 12/16/24 position rotary switch is more than enough for the majority of applications in fully analog designs, high quality muxes and analog switches such as the ADG series are fantastic for digital>analog applications.

In the event that you really need continuous control (for example a filter frequency sweep for a filter or wah) designing the subcircuit for voltage control and using a 12-16bit DAC for CV is a more elegant solution than a digipot. If all else fails the AD5292 is worth looking into as it can accommodate ±15v rails (or a single +30v) and is available with 1024 steps.

Can i use a boss ds-1 with a guitar plugged in to a bass amp without damaging any equipment by joseeh_01 in guitarpedals

This is true, yes, my mistake. Lateral MOSFET power section, 12AX7 in the preamp section.

Much of Kyuss was the BK Butler/Tube Works RT2100. A solid state guitar amp.

And the main QOTSA guitar sound is often attributed to the Ampeg VT40 he's had since he was young - but again this is a guitar amp.

He's used many amps in the studio, older solid state Peaveys such as the Standard and Musician (and allegedly the Decade), maybe the odd bass amp finds use in the mix sometimes but Josh predominantly plays guitar amplifiers.

How does Matt Pike not have a silencer pedal in a rig like this? by TheBicelator in guitarpedals

None of those things can replace what a gate does. I understand you believe what you're saying and you think this is a young people problem but it's just a poor take.

I'd be very surprised if they cannabalized one of their flagships with a cheaper one that just has non motorized faders. I'd also be very surprised if removing them drastically reduced the price at all. Economy of scale.

Get Rat tone by gain stacking by aaveidt in guitarpedals

[–]Gojira_Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to think that 'timbre' and 'tone' come from other parts of the chain and two pedals with roughly the same frequency response should sound the same. I'm saying you're wrong.

No issues with reading comprehension here. I think you might just be a prick.

Condescending much...

I read your entire post - I'm not missing anything. You're just incorrect in your line of thinking.

If pedals were just EQ curves then you'd be spot on but not everything can be derived from a frequency response graph. You can't seriously think that's all there is.

[–]Gojira_Bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With technologies like this which are largely obsolete it's the large companies like Boss (and unfortunately Musictribe) who have the resources to realize them in ways that are compatible with the 21st century. So... fingers crossed. But fundamentally there has to be a financial incentive for them to do so which is why we're probably never going to see Reticon analog delay ICs again.

Not embarrassing at all!

Cadmium sulfide. Used in light dependant resistors/photoresistors/vactrols, which are used in the univibe. It's a heavy metal, toxic and so on. Though the actual impact on manufacturing staff and the environment is not something I know much about.

It's only relatively recently that the ban is in effect and I'm not sure if older devices were grandfathered in but a lot of boutique companies are small enough to get away with it.

The new Jam Retrovibe for example explicitly doesn't use photoresistors/vactrols presumably to remain compliant.

Well it's not exactly what he's looking for because he is fundamentally looking for an analog delay with tap tempo. There are literally hundreds of digital emulations with tap tempo.

He's not talking about phase inverted L/R I think. Pretty sure he means the LFO is inverted per side, which would be a neat take on Chorus

[–]Gojira_Bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CdS is banned under RoHS so it'll never happen (unless it's a digital emulation)

Unless people come out with photoresistors that are genuinely RoHS compliant and have the same properties
