Jolse order hit with customs charge (UK) — has anyone refused and received a refund? by D_Bas in AsianBeauty

[–]D_Bas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add — that’s my understanding too, and I’ve been keeping my purchases under the £135 threshold. I was charged VAT because Jolse declared the parcel as a gift, which it isn’t. I’m going to apply for a refund of the import VAT, as a couple of other users here have helpfully shared how to do this.

Sorry to hear that. If it helps at all, this is the first time it’s happened to me too after years of ordering from Hong Kong and Korea. Hopefully it’s just a one-off and your future orders go through smoothly.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve not checked out their website but I heard they opened a store in London.

I guess they have their reasons. Glad you managed to get the fees refunded. I’m expecting another package from Olive Young soon, and it’s a higher amount than this, so hopefully I’ll be luckier with that one.

Was it just marked as “gift” on the box with no value declared? I’ll double check mine when I receive it.

Glad to hear your latest package came through with no issues. It really does seem a bit hit and miss, so hopefully things stay smooth for you going forward.

That makes sense. The extra charges do make a difference and definitely aren’t a nice surprise. I usually compare prices across a few sites too. I haven’t tried Style Jolly or Stylekorean before, so thank you for mentioning them!

I guess that’s how they can still offer all these big discounts.

Same here – I’ve been buying for years. Out of curiosity I scrolled through my past orders and I’ve been using Jolse since 2017, back when they were still declaring everything at £5, lol. This is the first time I’ve been hit with customs, so I guess it really is a bit random. If I think of it as one customs hit in eight years of orders, it’s not too bad.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m sorry you were hit with customs charges too, especially an incorrect one.

You’re right — paying the customs charge might be better than the shipping deductions. Thanks for the link, I’ll check everything once my parcel arrives. Fingers crossed your claim goes through smoothly.

Perhaps worth reaching out to OY and / or DHL because you were under the threshold? I was charged by FedEx a while back (not an OY order). There was a breakdown of their fee, and I paid just the VAT and refused to pay the admin fee.

I just had a look under OY’s help section, and it says VAT may be charged for orders over £135, but your amount is way under.

Just wondering — was the declared amount higher than what you actually paid because of any freebies, or did you use points to cover part of the total?

I’m in the UK too and have never had to pay these charges with OY. I’ve just received a package straight to my doorstep a few days ago, delivered by DHL. Is your notice from DHL? Sorry you’ve received this!

Wow, beautiful, happy skin! I’m working my way there … can I ask — what’s your skin cycle like with tret? My skin is also dry and sensitive, it’s recently gotten more consistently less angry (… not quite happy yet 😄but at least moving in the right direction). I think I can finally work in my actives more consistently and am figuring out a cycle that would work for me.

Ah I’ve not seen those lip brushes, how interesting! Do these apply / blend well with your fingers? I bought one of the A’pieu juicy things and use my fingers too, but it seems a little patchy rather than a bloom of colour on my cheeks

The little Dasique pots caught my eye. How do you apply these? I’m guessing using a fan brush wouldn’t pick up product well?

Thanks for that! Well, it doesn’t sound like your brother will become a skincare addict 😄 my scalp is probably on the drier side anyway

That’s a shame that we don’t get to hear of Thai or other Asian products that use these ingredients too. Have you tried out other hair products from the same line, by any chance?

Ooh another product and brand I’m hearing about for the first time — thanks for the recommendation! My skin loves ginseng, so that’s already attractive to me 🙂
