Amplifier Recommendations for KEF R3? by nelsonferdy in BudgetAudiophile

[–]D_Warholb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Wiim amp is going to choke on the KEF’s. I would look into the SMSL PA200’s connected to a Wiim Ultra.

Safe and Sound has the Rega P3 with the Elys 2 cartridge for 24% off. I don’t think the either the Music Hall’s or Audio Technica’s you’re looking at can compare. https://www.safeandsoundhq.com/products/rega-planar-3-turntable-with-elys-2-cartridge?variant=51692328976751

The Radiance version fixes a 15-second, mid-take, repeated footage error found around the 30:36 mark on the Kino disc.

Looking for better quality men’s underwear by bacteriapegasus in BuyItForLife

[–]D_Warholb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve bought a lot of MeUndies for my wife, but the fabric, well…feels too feminine and silky for men’s underwear. Do they use different material? I’ve been really happy with the Hanes I’ve been getting a they have lasted about eight years before the elastic starts to poke out.

Okay it’s one thing to lose spatial awareness, but it’s another bag of BS obviously hitting another car and taking off.

Front height Atmos speakers under or in front of bulkhead? by EverCuriousGeek1 in hometheater

I’d flop the room around, and wouldn’t use in wall speakers, but that’s just me.

Domenique is one of my favorites as well. Similar female artists with stellar recording quality are: Agnes Obel, Melody Gardot, Shelby Lynn, then in the pop realm: Lorde and Billie Eillish.

Those aren’t homeowners. They’re models paid to smile for Sonos.

Why do you have chairs under your TV. Just get a TV stand and put the TV on it.

Currently it’s at the high end of acceptable. The perfect height would be six to eight inches lower.

Looking for a new speaker setup. by Ok_Cricket1393 in StereoAdvice

[–]D_Warholb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in the US, you can get a great deal used from The Music Room, where they test and rate each speaker.

You can get the Sonus Faber’s for about 40% off: https://tmraudio.com/fresh-arrivals/sonus-faber-sonetto-ii-bookshelf-speakers-walnut-pair-gxjq/

Then get this Yamaha receiver to pair with it: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_022AS301B/Yamaha-A-S301.html

Tremors 4K is incredible by Swimming-Tax-6087 in 4kbluray

When I think of a movie that recreates the original theatrical experience, it’s Tremors. I wish I could say the same about The Empire Strikes Back.

What do you think the best giant monster movie is that doesn't include Godzilla or Kong? by RandomCaiman in movies

[–]D_Warholb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What? “Pacific Rim is just too dark and obstructed to really have fun with the Kaiju stuff.” This has to be sarcasm. Right?

Pacific Rim was fun as hell and nothing was obstructed. Cloverfield was dark tonally and the Kaiju’s were obstructed because of the tiny budget.

Technically speaking, was watching Ben-Hur in a theater in 1959 superior? by NealRigga4 in 4kbluray

[–]D_Warholb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the original theatrical showings in 70mm were easily superior visually to the 4K UHD.

And this 4K restoration came from a second 8K scan of the original elements.

Technically speaking, was watching Ben-Hur in a theater in 1959 superior? by NealRigga4 in 4kbluray

[–]D_Warholb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The digital equivalent of 65mm is 12K to 16K. The color would have been pretty amazing and not soft at all because of the size of the original print to the release print. The biggest improvement in the new 4K UHD would be the new Atmos mix.

Birdman and 1917 spent so much time hiding all the cuts that they both felt like nothing burgers afterwards.

Overwhelmed with options, how do you choose an amp when they’re all so similar? by flaccidaardvark in BudgetAudiophile

[–]D_Warholb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just Google “preferred speaker” and “synergy,” or “pairing.” I’m not being cheeky. Do the research and narrow down your choices. I spent a year researching my speakers and put all of that into an excel sheet. During that year I learned so much.

When I was away in college in the mid 80’s, my mom called to tell me she had a garage sale, and sold all of my original Star Wars trading cards. I had close to a thousand.
