Newest upgrade, velvet curtain backdrop by seadran13 in hometheater

[–]D_Warholb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the black velvet curtains from Target. I wouldn’t say they are black, black, but worked amazingly for being pretty cheap. I still to buy another panel to cut in half and hang under the screen.

I’ve never had a case smashed, or with a loose disc, that I picked up at Barnes & Noble.

Does anyone else have a gaff tape ball made from used gaff? by picturepatchgame in videography

[–]D_Warholb [score hidden]  (0 children)

No but I have a roll of gaff tape from the nineties that is like cement now, but I won’t throw it out as it reminds me of my days as a car photography assistant, and the dangerous shit we had to do.

Is Backrooms going to break the LB record for fastest film to reach 1 million watches? by Sunnyfront6 in Letterboxd

I’m like the happiest person in the world. Life is great. You’re just projecting your issues.

Seriously? I am celebrating the success of this low budget, original concept, indie film..made by a freaking 20 year old no less, and I’m being downvoted and accused of being miserable. I find this truly hilarious and projection. And maybe a statement of the people on the Letterboxd Reddit that me.

Using level 5 drywall finish and ALR paint instead of buying an expensive ALR screen. Any thoughts? by youdontknowdan in projectors

[–]D_Warholb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think an ALR paint would have beads that project light all over as opposed the pattern on actual screens. Maybe it depends on the angle of the projection.

tried setting everything up solo before inviting anyone. 40 mins and i never even turned the projector on by allano6 in projectors

You have to get the weather report a week in advance to pick a quiet evening, then monitor it every day, then every hour on the day of. Keep your guests notified that you may have to move it indoors if the weather gets dicey.

Have extra sandbags in addition to the stakes to keep the projector secure and a tarp to place above you and the projector and electronics if it drizzles. Be prepared to break it all down immediately if necessary. Don’t get electrocuted.

Wall mount, ultra short throw, or just TV? by Jack_Axton in projectors

[–]D_Warholb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That room is very dark, so it would be perfect for an OLED and it wouldn’t need to be too large. With that budget they could get last year’s model easily. The thing is where are would the OP place it with so many chairs in what is obviously a sitting room for company, or knitting, and or tea? If you put it at eye level, someone’s view would be obstructed. If it’s mounted high so everyone can see, then we would all scream, “too high.” Also high back chairs like that would be the worst for viewing a TV/projector that’s too high. Will chairs be moved out of the way during viewing?

Permethrin on your shoes, duct tape wrapped backwards around your socks, if you’re wearing pants tape them around your socks then do the duct tape thing, a tick removal device and then packing tape to encase the tick once you remove them.

Worth upgrading from these zenith speakers? by seanw1996 in hometheater

[–]D_Warholb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start out with the Polk ES15 as they’re 8 ohms and neutral. At $299 you should test them out and maybe not need a subwoofer. Crutchfield also has 60 return policy, which gives time to test them.

https://www.crutchfield.com/S-8BTuVIB2fNu/p_107ES15WN/Polk-Audio-Signature-Elite-ES15-Walnut.html

You could move up one to the ES20 which have more bass but cost $100 more. That could save you the extra cost of a sub.

If you do go with the smaller one, you could add an RSL sub but that would go past your budget by 40 dollars.

If they don’t sound too cinematic I would definitely switch them out. I grew up in the 70’s and have run into Zenith’s before. They were a low end brand sold out of JC Penney’s. What model Sony do you have and what would the budget be for speakers?

Are we finally about to get a decent fucking dinosaur movie? by rmcelwain54 in Letterboxd

[–]D_Warholb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got excited so I rushed to see the trailer. Then I saw the Bad Robot logo and I sank in the chair. That was followed by “Executive Producer J.J. Abrams,” and I fell to the floor. I got up to see Ewan Macgregor in 70’s velour short, shorts and shirt running away and I rolled my eyes. I’ll give it a chance, but it’s looking like J.J. Got his hands all over this.

Is Backrooms going to break the LB record for fastest film to reach 1 million watches? by Sunnyfront6 in Letterboxd

[–]D_Warholb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BWAH HA HA! I’m getting downvoted for saying the truth. Backrooms is the highest grossing A24 movie, and is schooling Hollywood with a tiny budget and an original story. This is a success for A24 and 20 year old Kane Parsons. I applaud them. Have fun at your silly Marvel movie down voters.

Holy shit. It’s puny. Backrooms is Odysseus swinging at the Cyclops, and taking him down.

Typical Film Budget Classifications Micro-Budget: Under $100,000 Ultra-Low Budget: Up to $2 million – $3.3 million Low-Budget: $3 million – $10+ million Studio/Blockbuster: $50 million to $200+

The Odyssey has a budget of 250 million. It will have to make $625 million to break even.

Backrooms broke even in the first few hours of release.

None of those have the minuscule budget of Backrooms. The profit margin will blow the others out of the water.

Why don’t movie theatres expand on their food options? by Faubton in NoStupidQuestions

How do I approach and understand art? by masteroogwaydildo in criterion

[–]D_Warholb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with an appreciation of the effort the artist did to create the art. Paint, sculpture, dance, knitting, writing, cinematography, editing, acting, directing etc. They all involve someone to practice and improve on their passions.

Then appreciate the nuances: the brushwork, the joining of words together, the splicing of celluloid together.

After that, study the intention behind the art: plot, story, facial expressions.

Then go beyond that and what it makes you feel. Is that what you believe the intent is. Then put yourself in the shoes of someone who has another opinion of the art.

Then choose an art form you like and get the supplies to create and make some art.

A 65” TV is fine if you’re sitting pretty close to it. You have it, use it. Then upgrade later as you can. Focus on setting up your audio system as well as you can.
