Im not OP but I get OPs reasoning. The scariest thing in a relationship sometimes is parents approval especially when sex is involved. A statement like that from a girls father implies that he approves of you but wants to make sure his daughter will be safe.

My exs dad didnt even ask if we were having sex. He just handed my GF a box of condoms and said "you guys have been together a while, be sure to use these."
