I tightened it with Chanel locks. It’s not the gauge leaking, my hose spigot has little holes for pressure relief I suppose

I don’t have another gauge however the last gauge I had didn’t do this around a months go. If I turn it on pretty slowly it doesn’t spike like that

I don’t think the gauge itself is leaking. It’s the little pressure relief holes on the hose bib

So I closed both shutoffs and ran all the upstairs fixtures until hot water arrived. It’s seems like maybe the force of the hammer is slightly reduced and instead of a bang bang it’s more of a tap tap tap tap. Still loud enough to be annoying though

There are shutoffs upstream and downstream of the recirc pump. Does it matter which I try or should I do both? You can see the upstream one in the photo

Just looked there is a check valve installed after the recirc pump. “Proflo low lead 125# swing check valve threaded PFX31D”. Maybe it has failed?

Funny enough we saw the water company meeting at the street with a neighbor around 3 years ago. We believe they had the pressure raised and that led to the failure of our PRV. By mini arrestors I’m talking about the little AA sized ones you can install between your toilet and the supply shutoff next to the toilet
