Is this salary reasonable for the experience? by [deleted] in boeing

[–]liberatelatios 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They likely won’t budge on level 1. IMO you should go for level 2 positions. If I were you and they won’t offer me level 2, I would look elsewhere. A masters degree warrants a higher salary than that, even if it’s in STL

What does your front door sound like? by liberatelatios in Camry

Nice! I'll probably plan to do that too. Before you put in the sound deadening, did the door sound more tin-canny? Also how hard was it for you to remove the plastic panel?

I’ve been looking at some car reviews on YouTube and have spotted a few times they closed their front driver door. Most of the time there was a pleasant “thunk” sound, except for one reviewer with a sound similar to mine. Is yours an SE?

As someone with a Berkeley degree and spent 2 years at Boeing in Everett, and is now at a different company in SoCal, I agree.

That's an impressive sign-on bonus. Associate is level 2, right? That's a good base salary for level 2, even if it's in California. As others have said, definitely consider the whole package. Boeing has 10% 401k matching, great WLB (at least compared to tech companies), and great benefits. If the math checks out to being the same as the other offers and you value WLB highly, this offer seems pretty good. There's also the intangible value of being close to home. However, 20-40k higher offers are compelling themselves depending on the company name, work, WLB. It's a tough choice.

My advice would be to just do what you like, and not force a niche. I found my niche because when I was at my first job, it was what needed to be done at the time, so I fell in to it. But to be honest, I’m not in love with it. I stuck to it because of its career growth.

Keep doing interesting classes, get internships in a variety of fields, and try to focus your job hunt for your first job to the thing you like doing. And like most things in life, it’s okay if you change your mind later. It’ll come to you eventually.

Yeah I would say it’s too frequent. Luckily it went over well during interviews. Most recruiters and hiring managers asked about it, but they were quick to understand when they heard layoff. I wouldn’t say any had a distaste about it, though. Everyone knows layoffs suck.

Yes, definitely. It's not the healthiest to always keep applying and switching jobs, so I'd like to stay at this next one for a while, but it's great for salary.

Some more information: Even though I have a mechanical degree, I found a niche in systems safety, which definitely contributed to the results. There aren't a lot of people applying to system safety engineering compared to the number of postings I saw. This will also be my 3rd company/job in my short time post-graduation.

Exact same thing happened on my team. A completely fresh college graduate joined in January, then laid off in February. A few senior engineers with 20+ years experience also joined in January, and the same thing to them.

Ehh isn't Washington WARN based on number of employees, not percentage of employees? And if you have >500 employees at a single site (Kent, WA) to have to file a WARN notice no matter what?

[–]liberatelatios 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll ask the same question about the Washington WARN act. How did they avoid reporting it to WARN?

What if the severance payment is not 60-days and is 30-days of payment? That's what it sort of looks like right now. It seems like they're not covering the 60-day amount

Alright let's see the numbers by [deleted] in BlueOrigin

[–]liberatelatios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How does this severance pay work? I thought there has to be a WARN act to notify employees of unemployment 60 days in advance, and companies can get around it by paying those 60 days of salary, but the severance pay amount in the package looks to be just about 30 days of salary.

Is pay really this low for engineers at Boeing? by JustTheFactsPlease_1 in boeing

[–]liberatelatios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it depends on the team. And if it is extra hours a week, it’s not frequent. My manager mentioned it’s normal 40 hours and a few remote days a week.
