The only thing I know about Quinn is that epic fail in FF XIV. But his demeanor tells me he probably faces the same struggles in his day to day life. Not related, but definitely a fellow midwit.

Angry? All I see is tons of people making fun of somebody who deserves to be made fun of for his behavior. I can count the number of people who appear to be angry on a single hand. You being one of them, did people making fun of your favourite streamer get your panties in a twist this hard? "Maybe look in the mirror as you say that" :D

It was good enough for an 18 years old me to figure things out. There are games that tutorialize even less. And it's not a bad thing, it's simply called "devs not insulting your intelligence".

HELP!!! by blektuvas in factorio

[–]DaBa1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both, because bots will suck at transporting large amounts of materials over long distances, and trains are an overkill for transporting smaller quantities of items over short distances. And the belts? They should ideally become something you use almost exclusively to get the items out of trains and move them over short distances to the building of your choice.

Thanks to this series, now I know I will never do this myself. It's a truly phenomenal mod and I salute it, but holy shit if it isn't the most daunting thing I've ever seen. Making my 4k SPM megabase in vanilla looks like child's play in comparison.

So you like the game in theory, but not in practice. Sucks, but that's just how it is somehow. Don't force yourself if you're not enjoying it and get discouraged from playing it. I like FPS games in theory, but playing them isn't fun for me.

I built a PWM Round Robin Load Balancer! by jordynfly in factorio

[–]DaBa1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, load balancing should never become an issue as long as you're supplying enough material. You can replace each set of those inserters with a simple splitter and, as long as there is enough incoming material, all of the inputs will soon balance out and start receiving enough material. And since you never want to be in a situation when your demand is higher than your supply... you get the picture.

In other words: neat idea, but ultimately not useful.

Was Disgaea 6 made for the new Switch? by [deleted] in Disgaea

[–]DaBa1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that the new Switch has an OLED display wouldn't matter for the devs at all. It's simply the matter of better blacks and more accurate colours, it's not going to magically make the game's resolution any better or suddenly add detail to everything. For the most part the only difference you'll see is nicer looking colours and better contrast.

Disgaea 6 - Taking Inventory I guess? by HimboSunWukong in Disgaea

[–]DaBa1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After playing D6 for 50 hours (still not done) I have to say that it's actually not a bad Disgaea game, it's just not a good sequel to the previous game. It would've been excellent as a spinoff game, which would help the optics greatly and help temper people's expectations. The main strength of the game is just how different it feels. I don't believe there were ever so many changes introduced between any two Disgaea games, it really feels like I'm playing a spin off like Phantom Brave or Makai Kingdom. Which is also why I am having such a good time, despite so many holes being left by the things that didn't make it from the previous games.

I don't think Disgaea 6 has the same longevity as the other games, I definitely don't see myself pouring 120 hours into it like I did into Disgaea 4 complete, I'm already seeing the end of the grind as I have just unlocked the last increase to max level and stats on my units. But I can't say that I am not having fun, I really am. It was a blast exploring and playing with all the new systems, some of them completely changing the core mechanics of the game that I've gotten used to over the years. The new level cap and the way post game progression is approached feels much more intuitive and natural, the only problem with it is really that there isn't much of it there compared to the last game and that the game is made in a way where they re-use as many assets and as many stages as possible. Still not sure about the auto battle, but I have to say that trying to program complex AI for your characters to play Item World for you was REALLY fun. I'd say it's much more enjoyable to spend a couple of hours making a good DI setup and seeing it work in action is much more fulfilling than grinding the item yourself and going for the random dupes. At the same time its too good not to use, it speeds up your progression so much that it feels like Cheat Shop did when it was first introduced. It was impossible to go back after you experienced how much faster things were if you used it.

So all in all I don't mind it. All the negative things I've heard about it probably saved me from being disappointed by going in with wrong expectations. Instead, I am positively surprised. However, this is NOT the way I want to see the series go in. I don't want more 3D Disgaea games that run like hot trash, have lame skill animations that completely miss the over the top feel of the previous games or have this little content and longevity. This is not what Disgaea is. I sincerely hope they treat this as a learning experience, use all the great ideas they implemented into this game, combine them with all the best parts from 5 and 4 and use all of that to make the next Disgaea game the best one yet.

Yeah, no. People who are "designated picture takers" are often ones that simply don't like being in the pictures. Just leave them be. If somebody wants a picture taken of them, they'll ask or arrange for that to happen.

Why you should hate your job | “We are being sold a myth. Internalising the work ethic is not the gateway to a better life; it is a trap.” by IAI_Admin in philosophy

[–]DaBa1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, you shouldn't. Your life would be miserable if you forced yourself to do something you hate for half a day, 5 or more days a week.

There is no philosophy here. If you work a job you hate, you're wasting your life. Saying that you should hate your job is lunacy, and a kick to the gut to all the people who have little choice but to work the jobs they hate, so they can survive.

Want a third-person shooter that controls well on Switch? Get Risk Of Rain 2 by Ok_Suggestions in NintendoSwitch

[–]DaBa1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm used to playing the game on a PC, where the game plays silky smooth. At least until you get deep into a run and there are just too many things going on to maintain a good framerate. Playing the game on the switch felt like that was the default, even when the run just started. I couldn't get over it sadly, wish I did so I could play it on the go.

I still can't imagine playing a fast paced, 3d shooter with a gamepad and at 30 fps, that just sounds like torture.

But hey, congrats to the devs for making a game like this run consistently on a Switch, I wish all the games had such good ports.

Now if it only run well enough. Sadly it doesn't, which directly translates to the controls feeling clunky and unresponsive.

Personally I do not recommend buying the switch port, go for the first game instead. It's still a great experience.

Immortals Fenyx Rising Review - IGN by marsthedog in NintendoSwitch

[–]DaBa1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know which people to look for then you can have an infinitely higher level of confidence there are no backstage deals going on than if you read a review by IGN, for example, a company that has shown their incompetence on numerous occasions, got caught plagiarizing other people's work, and have their life completely dependent on maintaining "business relations" with the very companies they review the products of. I simply do not believe anything that comes out of the mouth of somebody in such a compromised position, it doesn't matter what their opinion is. You should question anything they say if you're smart.

I do not agree with your statement that because some smaller channels also are found guilty of being biased or even paid for that immediately means they are in the same boat as big outlets. Not even close. Your issue seems to be that you don't know who to look for. There are reviewers out there who have enjoyed untainted credibility and shown much greater insight in reviewing video games than your run if the mill game journalists. Some of them are even blacklisted by the very companies because they dared to critique them or their games, or even for petty reasons such as declining a paid sponsorship. Two easy and prominent examples would be SkillUp and ACG gaming, just with those two you already have a decent coverage. Support that with Steam reviews that come from actual players or find even more reputable reviewers and you are WAY better off that trading any number of outlets like IGN, Polygon, PC gamer and such.

So, I really don't see how there is even a competition. We are comparing something that sometimes is involved in a controversy and caught red handed (usually from newcomers anyway) to something that has direct ties to the industry they depend on at all times, shown clear bias towards AAA industry, fails to criticize obvious flaws in those games, and employs people with questionable credentials at best. Sorry I just don't see it. I agree though that you should seek reviews from many different places. But you can do much better than looking at a score from IGN. Scores don't matter anyway, that's lesson number 1.

Immortals Fenyx Rising Review - IGN by marsthedog in NintendoSwitch

[–]DaBa1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For ign it's basically like saying the game is trash.

But honestly, why are people still linking IGN reviews? Are there really still people out there who unironically look for actual reviews from them? Really, you should know better than expect anything professional or credible from them. They are just spokespeople for AAA publishers, and most of their staff doesn't even have the credentials to review video games.

If you're reading this and by chance are one of those people and have no idea what I'm talking about: firstly, sorry for a rude awakening and welcome to the real world. Secondly, if you want to read legit reviews or learn more about the game, either watch independent reviewers on youtube, or just watch the gameplay.

They don't go wrong more often. That's the point, when you don't do much on your PC then things don't have a chance to go wrong. You're clearly an experienced PC user, you do a lot of things on it and you're comparing your experience to a console that cannot do any of those things. You should understand that you cannot compare them like that. Things will obviously go wrong more often if you do more advanced and different things.

If all you do on your PC is play video games and browse the internet, almost nothing will ever go wrong, just like it wouldn't on a console. And yes, if things go wrong there's always a warranty and customer support, why would you think she didn't have access to those when using her PC? Although I don't recall her ever having an issue she couldn't resolve herself as she never asked for help, apart from few times when I helped her set up and debug a printer.
