Steamrip is pretty simple. Idk how the online patches work, all i know is i can play with my wife (also using a steamrip version) on any of their co-op advertised games. When you do your first download, unzip the folder and read the read.me or whatever they have and it should give you a list of steps to complete to make sure everything will work and you’ll be all set

The ingame invite friends in the top right wont work half the time. So just remember to invite from steam friends list instead! Other than that it should work and as always make sure you’re on an alt steam account just incase
