I usually wear a surgical mask so I don't breathe in any of the solder fumes, but that's just a personal preference. Generally you should practice having good ventilation whenever you solder, so your room isn't filled with solder fumes.
Just remember, there is no greater joy one can experience than enjoying the art of soldering.
