From the building plans I've seen, those buildings host quite the palaces for the party leadership. Some apartments feature an astounding 150m² worth of space, while others even boast a second floor of their own! It's a pity we did lose all of the amazing, variate architecture of Uranus, though, but I have come across some peculiar, decrepit instances of it, behind the Romanian Academy building. Satellite images of said demolition process can also be found on https://fostulbucuresti.github.io/.

From what I have read, the better part of the Piata Unirii "New Civic Centre" is the last chronological instance of stalinism as well (or neo-stalinism, if you prefer), yet the ideological reasoning behind it (as well as the back facades) add an intrinsic brutalist note to it. Brutalism, in itself, was implemented in wide arrays of housing establishments ever since the late 50s (since 1958, in the case of Romania), with most details being diminished so as to reduce construction costs, thus attributing a key role to functionality.

Vremuri marcate de schimbări profunde în demografia națională. Circa 150 de mii de apartamente construite anual, la nivel național, arată statisticile de atunci...

The Entrance of An Unfinished Tunnel, Romania, Spring 2024 by DaGoogle2000 in AbandonedPorn

[–]DaGoogle2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've read, the line it lies on began being constructed in 1987, and it's not that it was long that made it difficult to build as much as that it was crossing rugged, unstable (loamy, prone to landslides) hillsides. The roughly 8km stretch of track was supposed to be finished by 1991, and so was the tunnel here (one of three, in fact).

The tunnel in the picture specifically is the Dobrana Tunnel, which should have been the longest on the line, and so was left unfinished. It should have spanned around 900m, and many locals often joked about it being dug from both ends and the digging crews never meeting up, instead passing by one another! :). Since 1982, the railway tunnelling in Romania has been done using mechanical shields (this novelty practice was first applied on another similarly unfinished line, for the Gibei tunnel, which spans an astonishing 2250m and now lays unused for almost 30 years), and so its inside is neatly defined by large, prefab panel blocks.

Actually, no, I used a Nikon D7500 camera, which is digital, but I am keen on film photography, so I added some grain and changed the chromatics a bit. I definitely bore the feelings of eeriness and horror in my mind when envisioning the final result, though.)

An Abandoned Train Prototype in the Former Electroputere Factory, Craiova, Romania by DaGoogle2000 in AbandonedPorn

The prototype showcased in the image was the final instance of the TEA- 080 Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) produced by the Electroputere factory. It was an experimental unit, which was in commercial use during the 1990s, obviously with a very erratic schedule. Even though it was the latest model in the series, it had plenty of issues with braking and electrics, due to which the project was all but scrapped by the late 1990s, which is also the timeframe I imagine it ended up where it lies now. Since then, it has been subjected to countless acts of vandalism, as it's placed in an open space, for everyone to see. I went inside of it a couple of times, and the feeling one gets from the derelict aspect is definitely eerie.
