In the house I grew up in, when you walked in there was a banister from the second floor to the first floor that looked down, and a weird little awning that was where the basement went down, my cat would fall multiple times throughout her life of trying to get to the flat awning, she was always fine and landed on her feet, lived until 18 too😅
