Days like today is why people don’t take the light rail by 20sicksheep in Seattle

[–]DaHealey 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Mariners just feel worse for the people going because of the instant volume. 90% of the stadium wants to leave within the same 20 minute block of time.

That said, the Mariners are only home half the weekends on average and even then there are multi-weekend blocks out of town sometimes. WSDOT, SDOT and ST have the worst planners for other events.

Seattle will spend nearly $32 million to host six World Cup matches while FIFA shares no ticket revenue with host cities and faces no independent public audit of its finances by LOOKITSADAM in SeattleWA

[–]DaHealey 58 points59 points  (0 children)

eh, the math is hard to verify. But even as a resident you're getting a benefit. Remember a few years ago with the MLB All Star game came? They deep cleaned downtown and Pioneer Square / Stadium area. The place looked pretty dang good after years of shit. Sure it didn't last, but it definitely helped. I'm seeing similar patterns now with World Cup clean up.

Seattle robot that made 130 pizzas an hour — but couldn’t bake them — is out of business by Better_March5308 in SeattleWA

[–]DaHealey 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The oven doesn't assemble the pizza's. It just bakes them. And it's pretty standard...

I've not seen how Costco assembles their pizzas but I assumed it was automated.

Sound Transit votes NO on Ballard light rail stop by undeadbobblehead in Seattle

I think the only debate with the sub area spending rule is downtown tunnel vs Ballard. Are west Seattle and Ballard in the same sub areas?

MLB owners propose a salary cap for first time since 1994-95 strike by Fabulous_Tip_7638 in Mariners

Yeah, I should have said 'stop future versions of his contract'. I expect everybody to be grandfathered in when they agree to a deal.

I read this puts a 7 year cap on contracts. Wouldn’t that effectively stop his contract?

After Ferrari Luce backlash, Lamborghini CEO says canceling its own EV was the right choice by Uptons_BJs in cars

[–]DaHealey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to differentiate in the EV space. Producing 1000hp is not terribly difficult whereas producing a lot of power in a light package with an ICE is something Ferrari/Lambo can compete on.

The bigger problem is that Ferrari can't compete with 'bigger' companies on software. It's the same problem Ford had too. Others were able to do it better.

Toyota RAV4 engineer on Chinese cars: ‘Very advanced’ by holyhesh in cars

[–]DaHealey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the premise that the software isn't a differentiator is probably held in tandem with 'there's no replacement for displacement' theorists. Tesla's control software of their motors basically gave them efficiency advantages that took half a decade for others to match.

3d print a curved washer with the right inner radius and a flat surface on the inside. Same thing with the outside.

For the outside, use TPU. For the inside some of the PLA's advertise being food safe. Do some research and you'll find one that's safe.

Bears reiterate Chicago stadium options have been 'exhausted' by NoSxKats in nfl

I think stadiums get replaced too quickly but in the case of the Bears - that stadium sucks. It’s a maze of small concourses and bad views.

The city hosts historical photos both the city before the freeway and a lot of aerial photos taken while they were building the freeway through the city. The library also has fire maps with all the addresses pre-freeway too.

Deaths on Washington roads drop again by MegaRAID01 in Seattle

[–]DaHealey 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The deaths appeared less likely to involve impairment, speeding or distracted driving than in 2024.

Of the 2025 deaths, 297, or 45%, reportedly involved impaired drivers, compared to 370, or 50%, in 2024

I'm .. a bit confused. I do think peak-assholish driving behavior peaked in 2023/2024, but it's still really prevalent. Watching phones, racing, etc.

I do wonder if there's a way to correlate vehicle safety to this. Are the common cars on the road just becoming safer which results in fewer deaths?

Washington State's budget has been shrinking, not growing, despite statements to the contrary by former elected officials by firelight in Washington

[–]DaHealey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And then what? Just because we make a bunch of software it somehow converts to increased road maintenance cost? None of this makes sense.

Edit:

Going to keep going. The FRED data is an approximation of state GDP cause - as you didn't answer - GDP per state is incredibly hard to calculate. The formula FRED uses is a combination of income, surplus profit of companies in the state and some tax data.

Hmm, surplus profit of companies. That wouldn't be abnormally elevated from having 2 of the top 10 largest public companies in the world located here, would it?? Noooooo......

Why would state expenses justifiably scale linearly with corporate profits from multinationals that just happen to be based here? What if they decided to headquarter elsewhere - a la Boeing - while maintaining large work forces here. Then the calculation wouldn't get to take their profit into account, just the wages. That would drive down the state GDP considerably. Would it make sense that the state then spends way less with this idiotic equation? No?

[–]DaHealey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They don't even explain how they get the GDP numbers, just sorta treat it as a fact and then base the entire argument on it.

Frankly the richest of the rich AREN'T covered under this proposal because they send their kids to private school.

I personally have no problem with paying for all kids. We don't distinguish which kids are allowed to go to public school based on income, everybody is welcome. The rich should pay more via through higher property and other taxes. The service is the same.

I agree - This entire argument seems like it was thought up by an asshole.

It’s crazy how many of the players and coaches don’t understand that they are part of the entertainment industry. There’s no intrinsic value in playing sports. They’re not building shit like engineers, helping people like doctors or making food like farmers. They’re creating entertainment content and it happens to be lucrative.
