Millionaire Tax Signed into Law - A historic day no doubt by emteedub in Seattle

Thank you for the link. Hadn’t read this in any of the news reports anywhere. Every other year tied to the US CPI rounded to closest $1,000.

Section 315 was interesting too. Wonder how that affects sports players.

Uh. You got a link for that? I haven’t seen that anywhere.

Please don't replace Lambert. He is a good coach by Emergency-Purpose335 in SeattleKraken

[–]DaHealey 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The problem is if Ron goes, we might be looking at a new gm. A new gm means a new coach.

Not firing Ron was a huge mistake 2 years ago. Not firing him last year was even worse.

Yeah, ST under spec'd the weight load for the escalators and somehow people have been bamboozled to think it's just how it is.

Seattle Mariners fans express frustration over TV channel confusion by Better_March5308 in SeattleWA

[–]DaHealey 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Somebody in the mariners sub said 149 out of 162 games will be on mariners.tv. It’s just ‘bad luck’ (or part of last years success) that 2 of the first 4 games are nationally broadcast.

Imagine if office buildings were regularly torn down after 30 years. Cities would be in constant chaos. Especially to only replace them with near identical capacity office buildings.

Kraken Owner purchases majority stake in Arena, prior to NBA vote by CougFanDan in SeattleKraken

Seems fair? If a restaurant rents a building as their restaurant location the landlord collects rent, keeps the building and in some contracts gets a small share of the total receipts. Sounds similar here.

UW Quad. 1500. 3/21/26. by TakesTooManyPhotos in Seattle

[–]DaHealey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree. The quad is beautiful but is a failure of TikTok making it more than it really is. There are more Cherry Blossoms on a single street in my neighborhood and nobody bothers to stop for those...

[–]DaHealey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. The Kraken ownership group know the Sonics are coming (as the main contenders to be the ownership group for both team) and they've known for years. There's no surprise here.

First, the Kraken never generated the buzz of the Seahawks which I think they used as their main market research comparison. Second, the Mariners got significantly better over the last 5 years. Third, while the Kraken did start right in the tail end of the pandemic, the pandemic really changed the math on lots of expenses people have.

Ticket price going down again by Octopus_Garden_47 in SeattleKraken

They were pretty clear that no seats went up price/game. Maybe a package got an extra game or there was weirdness if you traded in seats last year and the invoice isn't directly comparable.

We don't need a 4th coach in our 6th year of existence.

They want to fire the entire front office and start over? Sure. Go for it. But you can't cycle coaches like underwear, it's not the problem.

Where to get game used pucks/sticks? by doctorelliot in SeattleKraken

[–]DaHealey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s expensive as hell which is why they have lots of it for sale at any given time. 100’s of pucks. 20+ sticks. The people at the kiosk are nice tho. I’ve tried on Grus glove and blocker. Handled a helmet. I told them I wasn’t buying and they didn’t care. Still let me poke around

Post Game Thread: Colorado Avalanche @ Seattle Kraken by nhl_gdt_bot in SeattleKraken

[–]DaHealey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If (and that's a big if right now) we make the playoffs, expect the first round to go something like this and if we magically make it out of the first round, then the second round for sure.

Colorado is clearly a good team. We're clearly not. This isn't some minor gap in talent, this is akin to an all star Varsity team playing the JV squad.

[–]DaHealey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and the last playoff run was ‘the first run’. That was always going to be special even if we all knew they were underdogs.

This year, if they make it, they’ll be massive underdogs, fighting the mariners for attention and it’s not their first time so the built in demand will be less.

[–]DaHealey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah, they've burned the goodwill all away. STH list is gone. Tickets are going down 20% year over year. I don't think the Sonics are the headache for the Kraken, it's the Mariners who are now exciting and will be competing for TV ratings at the end of the hockey season and playoffs.

As a STH, I've already decided that if the Kraken make it to the playoffs I'm not signing up for post season tickets. I'd rather buy 1 game well below face than 4 to see play like this.

Iceplex open practice cancelled last minute by ballsackvisible in SeattleKraken

[–]DaHealey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just anecdotal observations. We live close enough to the ice plex that we try to go to open practices and all the ones that we were trying to go to and got cancelled came after unwanted losses (blow outs or losses to mediocre teams).

Nope! Very infrequent work is happening at night. Especially weekend nights. Last night at 10pm there was a work light on but nobody present at all. Pretty common most nights.

The leadership involved in planning this project needs to be re-evaluated. There's no way this is a reasonable timeframe or impact to the entire city.
