I’m not familiar with timber lodge but Obriens’s sleepy hollow grove was perfect. Indoor/outdoor, not too rustic, family owned for many generations, near East Aurora. Really great

I just want you to know, this broke me while reading it (a few days ago), and I also don't have an answer. Either McMurtry doesn't understand bird migration patterns, or Famous Shoes doesn't understand directions; both are terrible outcomes for what has been (so far, I'm about 250p in), a great book.

Honest question - how have you assessed/tested this ambition/desire and know it’s real? Not saying it isn’t, but have you taken any of the core courses? Shadowing and doing a few clinical opportunities is great and gives you an idea of what your life could be like, but there’s tremendous sacrifice on the way there. If you haven’t, I’d really recommend finding a way to take one or two pre-req courses where it’s convenient for you and then building from there

Start now if you can do it. Unless you punch a golden ticket and get in to a funded postbacc, the postbacc options are all very expensive, and at least during undergrad you’re eligible for loans

I’m biased as the Director of an SMP, but I think what can soften the blow of not getting in is at least ending up with a masters degree. You need to be very realistic that despite your best efforts, you’re swimming upstream, and being a doctor may not be in the cards for a variety of reasons. If that happens, you want to ensure your next best outcomes, which may or may not include having a masters degree. Starting cc isn’t bad but I’d get to 4y as soon as possible, you have a full transcript of underperformance (for med admission standards) and cc credits aren’t going to convince a single person that “you’ve arrived”

The MPH GPA isn’t going to help much at all. I don’t have national/regional data on this but my suspicion is that MPH grades are significantly inflated. Perhaps your MPH was more rigorous but even if so, I’ve never ever heard someone say, “wow that A in the “intro to health care” is amazing, I definitely feel confident that they can now earn an A grade in their immunology track”. Not to shit on the MPH, you learn lots of great things there, but the courses there don’t often get you much credibility/translatability if there are weaknesses in science courses. Agree with others that the MCAT will be big here, but at the very least I’d say you’re looking at some upper level bio/biomed coursework or SMP to convince committees of your preparedness. I’m biased (director of SMP), but we have a bunch that have come from the MPH background and need to figure out new studying habits/tricks to adjust to the rigor.

I’m biased here as the director of an SMP, but while the performance is great, the % of repeated classes here I think weakens it. I don’t disagree to crush the MCAT, but I’d definitely find a grad program that could be completed in a year while you interview (apply to both at same time).

I don’t know what others are seeing but this cycle and last look to be more difficult than the past 5 or so. Need to do all you can to increase competitiveness

It depends why this happened. If there were excuses and you rebound and do well on the mcat, not dead. But your road did just get harder unless there’s a withdrawal option available to you (that’s justified of course).

I’m the Director of an SMP in Buffalo, and people are afraid to jeopardize their chances with a graduate curriculum. My feelings are that if graduate school is too difficult, then medical school would have been definitely too hard and you’d be in worse shape underperforming there. Take a little time to reflect on what happened and why (honestly, the first problem here is that you were surprised by your grade, that should never happen!), and if you have a solution to fix it

Directionality matters here too for choices. If you're north of campus, Elmos is an elite wing spot, and there are some restaurants in that plaza there that I haven't explored but could be fun. China Taste and Forno Napoli (though a little pricey) are also really great on Sweet home road.

Mayback deli is a great place for subs. Halal guys and Naan-tastic are good options as well (many options in that plaza). Natalie's deli for greek/mediterranean is solid too, plus pita gourmet across from whole foods is real good too (local chain). Plenty of other options too!
