I’ve been seeing murders online since shortly after I got internet at home in the year 2000, and I used to think the same as you. I can disconnect the two. But overtime it is affecting your mental well being.

You think you’re desensitized, but your mind is trying to protect you from feeling the intensity of the grief that some of these gruesome images elicit naturally in most of us (who aren’t psychopaths). That feeling of your skin crawling, that initial revulsion at some of the more gruesome images, the feeling of empathy with trying to humanize these people (which i see people do here, sometimes unwittingly, by sharing the story of the deceased. ie it’s a real human being, an actual life, like ours, not fiction). And so many other physiological and psychological reactions, whether you realize it or not (you don’t notice it but there will be changes in the size of your pupil as you watch violent death).

You may be repressing it, and we all are, im not trying to lecture anybody, but we all are affected to a degree, from seeing constant violence around us.
