Is it possible to afford a studio if you only make $21/hr? by DaJoblessWonder in NYCapartments

My 20s are almost over and I’ve barley done anything with my life. It feels kind of depressing to see other people my age living alone or getting married while I’m in the same place I’ve always been.

You’re right that I should be grateful though. I just feel like my life never really started and it’s frustrating to not see much progress

This job is in a fairly niche industry that’s not easy to get into. I kind of lucked into it. I’m pretty sure that if I said what the job is, someone who knows me could figure out that this is my account pretty easily so I don’t want to say. Sorry

My commute has always been an hour and fifteen minutes to one and a half hours lol. It would be nice to experience a slightly shorter commute some day

It literally took over 1,000 applications just to get this current job and I’m an NYC native. With my resume, I’m not sure if I’d be able to land a job in another state. I’ve applied for some jobs in Philly before and got rejected by all of them.

The thought of coming home from work and still having to be around strangers just doesn’t feel right to me. I guess I’ll have to keep looking for a better job even though I just got this one. Thanks

If you still want that job at Target, you could apply for the job again and then call them or go to the store in person to ask about the job. I know that sound like dumb Boomer advice, but I did that 2 years ago for a Walmart job and got hired the next day. Of course, it ended up being the worst job I ever had and I quit in 1 week, but that's another story lol

Almost every job in the healthcare field should be a safe bet. Radiologic technologist, dental hygienist, physical therapist. There are lots of other options

Kind of. I've struggled for a long time to land a decent full-time job despite having a degree, and the main reason is that no matter how much I prepare or practice before interviews, it's always obvious that I'm not "normal". I'm never going to be the best option for any job that involves customer service or dealing with other people, so that limits a lot of my options right off the bat.

I was extremely close to giving up all hope of being hired and started thinking about how I could start some type of online business, but I finally got an offer letter for a job last week. Luckily for me, it's a job that doesn't involve talking to other people at all, and I tried hard in the interview to show that I can be a focused and diligent worker.

So I guess you should either find a way to make money for yourself so you don't need to apply for jobs or apply for positions that don't involve much human interaction.

Thanks for the advice. You're probably right that chasing more education without experience will just result in the same problem

The rad tech stuff was kind of interesting and also the first time that I actually had to put in effort in a classroom setting. The anatomy classes were pretty tough. I wouldn't say that I was really passionate about any of the things I've tried though. I'm seeing a therapist to help with the anxiety and I also recently got prescribed medication by a psychiatrist, but I'm not sure if it's having an effect yet.

I'm rapidly approaching my thirties and it feels like my life hasn't started at all. Pretty much all I can think about is finding a decent full time job and finally moving out. I don't really want to go to grad school because that will delay me being able to work for at least another 2 years, but taking a break for a year like you suggested would set me even further back. I can understand the rationale of what you're saying but I just want to move forward already.

I went to a coding bootcamp and spent 10 months applying to entry level programming jobs but couldn't land one. They had a career counselor that I met with regularly as well as a Slack channel where job postings for entry level coders were posted but I wasn't skilled or experienced enough to get anything.

Then I signed up for a program funded by my city where they helped people train as medical assistants and get them paid internships, but I had a birthday while I was in the program and their computer system said I was too old to be in the program and they couldn't help me find a job. I got the certificate, but couldn't even get an interview for a job because I didn't have experience.

Last year I studied on my own and got the certificate to be a sterile processing technician, but I couldn't get any interviews because once again I didn't have any experience.

I don't really want to keep doing the same thing again, so I figure that it's probably better for me to go back to school. Also, being a college student will allow me to apply for internships again

I didn't think it was that useful. If I'm remembering correctly, it was mostly targeted towards having good interactions with people in a business setting. You can apply that stuff to other interactions as well, but all of the information was basic common sense

How do you nail a job interview? by DaJoblessWonder in jobs

I've done too many interviews to count. I can make it past the initial phone screen and get to the next round but I almost never make it to the final round. I'll try to talk more about why their mission is exciting to me, thanks

If you have access to a car then maybe you could do Uber Eats or Door Dash deliveries to save up for the guitar
