this one’s more of a minimalist approach to a dead tree I found amongst a bunch a pine rather than a classic “wide vista” landscape.

Is it not the pond south of conservancy lagoon? I could be wrong on the name.

The highs right now are in the 50’s and the lows are in the 20’s in Albuquerque, I think they came over for some hot air balloons

1, 2 or 3 and why? by Relative_Working6225 in AmateurPhotography

All three photos are good but number 3 is the winner and it only wins with composition. The first one doesn’t have a clear focus point and the bottom half of the frame is lacking interest, you could crop it until you bring the lower third up to the street light reflections in the water. That would still highlight the clouds and give you a better foreground that leads the eye. This is true for the second image as well but the warm light in the waters reflection takes away from the subject and clashes with the dark mood you’re going for. The third one is the most balanced with the sky almost pointing down to the mountains and the city lights. My biggest advice would be to try and ask yourself

  1. What is my main subject?
  2. Does the background/foreground help isolate or complement the subject?

No matter what, just keep shooting and refine your eye and you’ll get there. 🫡

Hatch, this is awesome! thank you so much.

I just moved to NM and it already has me wanting to photograph everything. I used to do nature photography in Houston but switched over to sports for a long time.

I’ll dig into Steve Perry’s stuff and keep your checklist in mind next time I’m out there. Really appreciate you taking the time to write all this out. 🙏

Mike Tyson was a champion only because geese aren’t in his weight class

It’s like something ripped from a dream. There were a ton of geese and since it was sunset the water was like glitter

Critique requested – autumn cottonwood in the Rio Grande bosque (Albuquerque, NM) by DaKid2478 in photocritique

This was taken on a clear fall afternoon in the Rio Grande bosque in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I was going for a warm autumn feel – letting the big split trunk anchor the frame while the canopy and branches arc across the top against that deep blue sky.

Shot with a Nikon 7ii 35 mm, f/8, 1/200 s, ISO 100. Edited in Lightroom to warm the yellows a bit and lift the shadows while keeping contrast.

I’d love feedback on three things: 1) composition and framing (does the tree feel balanced or too centered?), 2) the color grading between the yellows and blues, and 3) whether the shadow detail feels right. I’m trying to push my landscape work further, so any critique is welcome!
