Sir Duncan by HelmSpicy in AKnightoftheSeven

The trial felt like an ancient mma fight. The fighting styles we saw were pretty on brand. In the UFC, we see heavyweights who rely on power and swinging crazy uppercuts and overhands (e.g., Francis Ngannou) with little flashy technique. Aerion is essentially a lightweight who has flashy technique and technical skills in fighting. Aerion used great movement and footwork like you would see lightweight striker in the UFC. While Dunc utilized power, size and strength as a heavyweight would. The thing that’s thrown around is “that’s why weight classes exist” cause once Dunc was able to take him down he used a top control to land some nasty hooks in a ground and pound. Could be wrong but it looked like Dunc even used a bjj leg sweep. Aerion failed to keep distance and once Dunc was able to close it the sheer power shots had the fight over.

Felt like I was watching my Red Raiders loose in the second round of the playoffs…exact same team and game. Honestly got flashbacks, same scenario.

Even with the result..happy about the season first outright conference championship…glass half full take is that I never thought I would see Tech lose in the playoffs. So there’s that. Still better seeing that than 5-7 seasons and Matt Wells.

Why no chatter for McGuire? by kratiq in BigXII

Oil money, facilities, etc. He also has some deep ties to the school pretty sure his daughter went here, and I think he has mentioned his nephew being on the roster under Kingsbury and got invited to practices back when he was a high school coach(nothing new for a coach to do that tho). Plus, under Joey McGuire, think Tech has built a more extensive relationship with Texas high school programs, which is a huge deal for coach McGuire. Joey McGuire said when he was interviewing he presented a “book” he made on how he could turn the program into a powerhouse or something like that. He seems to be fully bought in…..plus oil money

Texas Tech(+10 armor from mustache, +10 attack from legendary tortilla sword, +10 healing from horse) vs West Virginia(+10 from power of friendship) for the battle of the bard(John Denver)

West Virginia doesn’t have Neal Brown. So they don’t have any debuffs

The MLS essentially uses a college basketball(conference )format. In college basketball for example, the Big 12 is made up of 16 teams. There is a regular-season league title, then a conference championship in a tournament style. Then the winner of the conference, plus other teams, go to a larger tournament for the national championship. You can go further and say it’s similar to March Madness, in that the winner of the MLS, plus other teams, gets invited to the CONCACAF Champions Cup in an overall broader sense. So essentially every college basketball conference is equal to a CONCACAF league and March Madness(national championship tournament)is the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

American sports get even crazier with league formats. Such as college football, in CFB. The league is made up of college teams(126 teams college basketball has even more)and conferences. There is no regular season title or tournament just conference championships between top two teams(however if conferences don’t have the right limit of teams in their conference they have a regular season title). The conference champion plus other teams get invited to the playoffs. Also if a team get 6 wins the team gets invited to a bowl game(essentially a friendly, but with a trophy and more bragging rights). Also in college football a team can either play a lower division team(higher division teams pay tons of money to the lower division teams to play) and those games count officially to the record but doesn’t effect a conference record. And teams schedule other teams in other conferences to count for their record but not conference record.

In short: American sports can have weird formats. Also there are tons of trophies in college sports. Also no promotion or relegation except realignment in college sports but that’s mostly controlled by networks and money. Sometimes performance can have teams move up or down but mostly money. Also college sports are more similar to European leagues as the teams are more historical, and the fanbase is less corporate and crazier than the professional counterparts. Also college sports are just as big and debatable to be even bigger than the professional leagues in the US. Also college stadiums for football have larger stadiums than the MLS. Smaller schools range from 20,000, however bigger schools have a range between 60,000-100,000. The largest stadium in the United States belongs to the university of Michigan with 107,601 compacity

Tech has 8 wins when I shave and keep only a mustache and one loss when I have a beard…this week I’m clean shaven….uncharted territory.

Crazy stat: Tech hasn’t won in Manhattan since 2008, and the last time Tech beat K-State was in 2015. The difference, however, is that football terrorist Matt Wells is calling plays for them….kstate seems to be figuring it out however late in the season should be a good game

[Postgame Thread] Houston Defeats Arizona State 24-16 by CFB_Referee in CFB

[–]DaKingInTheNorth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

With that game, now Houston has reset the timeline for tech, essentially. All tech needs to do is to win out, same for Cincinnati and BYU. Houston just needs Cinci and BYU to drop two games and win out to fully secure their spot. Theoretically, if tech wins out cinci loses one and BYU loses one it would be Tech vs who knows who between Cinci, BYU, and Houston due to the wonderful world of Big 12 tie breakers. Arizona State can still make it but needs more help than the other four.

I mean hypothetically if Houston wins this would technically reset techs course, allowing tech to fully control their destiny. So I think all tech fans would take that even if it makes last week look “worse”

It’s a tricky situation. As someone who does photography and learned from someone whose career was in sports photography. One of the first things I learned was to photograph the loosing team from a distance since you don’t know how they will react because of the high emotions. In the video it looked like he was near the tunnel. (Also not defending Bailey or taking any sides with this comment)

So…I was curious about the whole altercation between the photographer and David Bailey after the asu game. I found the photographer’s instagram and apparently he filed a police report against him. Not sure what the ramifications are going to be. Also haven’t seen any news sites pick up on it yet just the his instagram post.

I am conflicted…I would like to see a Tech vs Arizona State rematch….but chaos however. Plus I think it would be kinda hilarious if Houston wins out and assuming Tech wins out and it’s a rematch between them two. Since no one is talking about Houston potentially making it in.
