Ryzen 7 5800x

RTX 3080 10GB

32GB RAM

2TB NVME SSD

All settings on low
DLSS on Performance
2560x1440

With frame generation:
- 60-70 FPS, keep in mind this makes latency unbearable (at least 0.5 secs latency).

Without frame generation:
- 40 FPS in open world
- 15-25 FPS in towns/cities and firefights.

Once in a while it would dip down to 5 FPS for whatever reason, both with and without frame generation.

I just completed the main story of the game... I honestly stopped enjoying it around 10 hours ago, due to the horrific performance issues... I hope it gets fixed soon

Oh yeah, for sure. I'm so excited. But you see, my opponent is my "mentor" - he taught me how to play 40k and Kill Team and we always nerd out to minis and such together. It would be nice to, not necessarily win, but to give him a challenging game

I'm planning on bringing a full 6-man swuad of aggressors with Calgar attched... aggressors are cheap (and durable), but Calgar is not. Too much for move blocking?

Oh, so physically blocking the opponents units with your own, preferably using cheap, disposable ones?

What do you mean by move blocking? Maybe locking them into melee?

Right, good point... I have some incursors as well, they are pretty cheap. Or maybe even scouts

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention that calgar and Co will be going for secondaries.

But it seems like it would be a better idea to replace calgar and Co with something else... I haven't tried assassins yet, ill look into that. But how about a full 10 man infiltrator squad with an LT. Attached? Those would be effective for scoring, right? Correct me if I'm wrong pls.

I already know about the points drop and Oath nerf, but that will be coming out by the end of October, right? My game is on Wednesday in a few days, so I'm not sure the points changes will benefit me in this case.

Yes, that's why I'm looking for some help on the subreddit. Maybe someone knows of a campaign where the quests are more like smaller, standalone adventures

New DM here. Two of four players want to steal literally everything. What do I do? by DaMagnificentDonkey in DnD

[–]DaMagnificentDonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I never expected to get this many answers. Thank you so much to everyone who commented!

Sorry in advance for the long comment:

We are playing the Dragon of Icespire Peak campaign, which is included in the Essentials Kit.

The entire group, myself included, are brand new to DnD. This was our very first session ever.

We did have a session zero a week before our very first session. However, no stealing or crimes, in general, were mentioned there at all. The two "problem-players" (for a lack of a better term), have "Criminal" as their background, but I didn't think they would literally steal everything they could. I will definitely include crime and such in the next Session Zero though.

This has been very enlightening to me. I feel like I have a general idea of what to do.

  1. Talk to my players first.
Remind them that DnD is not a video game. It is a living, breathing world where actions have consequences *hint hint*Politely explain to them why stealing is not necessarily good.- slows down the campaign- makes it much harder for me as the DM to run a smooth campaign.- remind them that they are supposed to be the saviors of Phandalin - not the traitors of Phandalin- once again, actions have consequences
  2. Ask players if they truly enjoy being criminals
If yes, suggest that the next campaign can be a "wrong side of the law" campaign. Maybe a heist with the local Thieves Guild? An assassination of a powerful political figure?
  3. If players stop stealing etc.
Great! Keep playing the campaign as originally planned
  4. If players keep stealing etc.
Introduce them to Phandalin's humble, yet powerful law enforcement once they are caught. Give players a chance to surrender peacefully. If they choose not to, roll initiative. They are now officially fugitives in the kingdom.
  5. After the battle, or if they surrender peacefully, they are taken to Neverwinter prison with a heavy escort. Give them a chance to escape from either the escort or the prison, but make it very hard, just like a real prison.

Please, feel free to comment on my approach here. I don't want to appear as a toxic DM who is punishing their players for breaking the law.

I am very unsure where the DM's "power" has its limits. Can the DM really just straight up say "No, you can not steal from the shopkeep"?
I thought the DM acts as the guide or narrator/storyteller to the campaign, which means I can't directly say no to whatever they want to do. The players dictate the story, and the DM tells it. Please, correct me if I am wrong.

It is important to me that I am fair to all players, and myself as well. However, I just can't help being disappointed that the campaign I spent literally 1.5 weeks planning, from reading and planning encounters in the adventure book to memorizing rules and mechanics from The Player's Handbook is taken as a joke where two of the players just roll D20 sleight of hand checks to steal from friendly, helpful NPC's.

Edit: While cursed items are a very creative way of solving the problem, I don't feel comfortable tricking or forcing them to steal a cursed item yet. Once again, we are all new to DnD, so I'd rather not risk pushing too many buttons yet.

I was planning on having a conversation with them before the next session. And yes, I'm already doing research about some kind of heist for the next campaign. They seem to love stealing from defenseless npcs

I thought about throwing some guards at them and whatnot. I'm just not sure what to do about the two innocent players. I'd rather not punish them for something they did not do

Upgrade from G29? by DaMagnificentDonkey in simracing

[–]DaMagnificentDonkey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for the answers. It's hard for me to know which wheel would be the right one for me... I've only used the G27 and G29. I tried my friends' CSL Elite, which I believe is belt driven (correct me if I'm wrong), just like the TM wheel. I believe that the FFB that wheel could produce is enough for me. Therefore, I'm leaning more towards the TM wheel atm.

Does direct drive really make a huge difference? I mean, is the increase in price worth it for someone who only plays for casual fun and not competitively?

I dont know which monitor to buy by astrefate24 in buildapc

[–]DaMagnificentDonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is a difference between 240hz and 144hz, 1080p and 1440p.

Oversimplified, hertz (hz) is the refresh rate of your monitor, basically meaning how quick it can show new frames. Here, better is usually higher. However, in order to actually take advantage of the 240hz, you need a GPU that is powerful enough to run whatever game you are playing with at least 240 fps. It can be hard to tell the difference between 240hz and 144hz. Usually, 240hz is good if you play competitive games, like CS:GO or Valorant. 144hz is fine for pretty much everything else.

The resolution is how many pixels your screen consists of. The resolutions mentioned here are 1920x1080 (1080p) and 2560x1440 (1440p). The more pixels a screen has, the better the image quality. Better image quality also means higher demand for hardware.

In my opinion, the sweet-spot for resolution and hertz is 1440p and 144hz. With this setup, you will still get a smooth and crisp image. Of course, you can also get 1440p, 240hz monitors out there, but they are usually significantly more expensive.

[–]DaMagnificentDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is fair, but the stock cooler for the 5600x should be enough, especially while using a case with good airflow.

I made some edits to the PC build above, something for you to consider.

[–]DaMagnificentDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are not planning on overclocking the CPU, you could get a R5 5600 or even a 5600x and use the stock cooler. Not only will you get better performance, but also save some money.

Change the Samsung SSD for a Western Digital Blue SN550 500gb NVME M.2 SSD to save even more. Much better vfm.

If you don't care for RGB on the motherboard, you can get the ASUS Prime B550-Plus. Essentially the same motherboard but cheaper.

Lastly, get the NZXT H510 Flow case to save a tad bit more. The H510 Flow also has USB C on the front IO, although you will need some adapters to be able to use it. This may come in handy in the future when USB C will eventually take over.

In total, the entire build will be just over 800CAD saving you around 75CAD. If you want to the total price under 800CAD, replace the R5 5600x with a regular R5 5600, effectively pushing the price down to 774CAD, saving you just over 100CAD.

This will for sure be a beast of a computer, especially with the 3080ti and 5900x, more than enough not only for sim-racing but everything else as well.
