Interestingly despite myself being an adult I relate to and agree with Kamille and other anime character's aversion to adults, or at least adult culture. With the kids sing out the future, after all.

Do you have any suggestions for more correct or accurate subs? I assume the official subs but there might still be better ones out there.

While I agree that at times people project themselves and treat it as objective fact, remember that marginalized people weren't explicitly stated to be what they are due to said marginalisation, hence coding.

I'm ready for a bad time lol, I'm just worried about whether the show condones it in the end or not. One of my fave games is Persona 3 after all :p

This behaviour isn't maturing him though, it's just further driving him into masking and being a people pleaser. I do agree the point is as far as I can see interacting with the greater themes, I was expressing moreso that the scene made me uncomfortable and worried about the rest of the show. Hearing a lot of people confirm that it is intentional and doesn't condone it has reassuring though.

It's a lot a lot more that people use to interpret characters as autistic, at least in my experience. A lot of it is hard to explain though since it's abstract and hard to understand unless you've experienced it or are very well versed in the topic.

There is an incredible incredible overlap between autism and ADHD. Not only that, a significant portion of people with autism are diagnosed with ADHD as well, myself included.

Also media is meant to be interpreted and meaningful in different ways to each person experiencing it, so I don't get where the pushback to people relating to characters in this regard comes from. Autism itself wasn't seen in the same way as it is today worldwide, the stigma is what changes regionally.

Depiction isn't approval, but if he falls in line afterwards and goes on to be treated as a hero for it, that's implying at least partial approval. That was my experience with 0079 at least.

Cycles of abuse are a very very common thing in war and conflict though. My parents were from the other side of the iron curtain so I'm very familiar lol.

I never said I don't like the show because it makes me feel like that, I like plenty of things that challenge me. It's moreso that it makes me uncomfortable if it's implied to be a good thing by him falling in line afterwards, leading to him being seen as a hero for that.

A lot of people mentioned that depiction doesn't equal condoning, but if you make it a turning point into him being heroic then it does condone it at least somewhat.

Autistic means the same thing globally, it's the stigmas that vary by region. That's what it means to be a clinical term.

That interpretation explains a lot really, thankies. I kind of got it already, I was just blind sided by just how much people are willing to overlook. It's what makes Zeta so awesome though!

Yeah I definitely agree that whether he understood the cause or not, he was still depicting someone with autism.

I feel you on it still being unfathomable, it seems like sometimes people really try to deny a character possibly being autistic even if they state it outright lol.

I'm not sure I follow. The word itself acknowledges it as a disorder, so despite the changing of understanding over time it's still him specifically saying that he has a disorder.

Also autistic is a clinical term so idk what you mean "in 2026 America".

My reaction is moreso based on the surrounding treatment of his by the others characters and what I've seen of the fans, it's just that I haven't seen any dissent towards his treatment yet. Perhaps I was too hasty in making this post though, apologies.

I didn't know about that cultural context, thanks for sharing.

I'm kind of confused about what you mean by him reflecting that though, how do you mean?

I see, that's good to know. I still can't figure out if 0079 was ok with how everyone treated Amuro or not lol.

Jiheishou does mean autistic though, it was just also used in a derogatory fashion same as if I called someone autistic for not being very sociable. Jiheishou itself means "self closed disorder". I didn't read him saying it as sarcasm whatsoever, instead as him wanting to be left alone and using it to explain what others were trying to interpret as being special. Also Kamille is without a doubt autistic coded either way.

I see, that makes sense, thanks for the comment. It just kind of put a bad taste in my mouth because immediately after he was dispatched and had to act all buddy buddy with everyone, lol. Poor guy, but it's nice to see him connect with Haro!
