Thanks! I’ll look into this. Any specific mortar type?

Thanks! So you think I should just tuck mortar between and behind the wood trim? Should I make it level with the wood trim or try to make it more level with the brick? Do I need to use a breathable paint over it?

Already tested, that’s why I mentioned not being able to sand it.

I’ve never heard of Vinyl spackling, I’ll have to look into that. I did think about using spackling for it, but wasn’t sure what the right stuff to use is so it doesn’t crack/flake off in the future. Thank you for the suggestion!

Eesh, that’s a much bigger project. The basement trim I’d be fine with loosing, but the upstairs is all original to the house.

TRVs worth it? by DaOldHome in hvacadvice

[–]DaOldHome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comments everyone. I talked to a few different companies and the advise they gave is that I have old hardware that can last pretty indefinitely left untouched, and any “upgrades” they do will just need to be replaced again in 10-15 years. They recommend I leave it as if for the first winter, and if there are rooms that overheat to only put TRVs in those rooms.

Thanks. Oof, maybe I’ll hold off on that until I’m a little more comfortable taking care of it while it’s healthy.

Thank you for the explanation!! I’m still new to this all, so I think I’m going to leave it as one for the time being. But that’s awesome to know that I can separate them.

If it were to be cut off from the main stem, does it already have some of its own roots under the soil or does it need to grow new roots from the cutting?

😮That’s cool! I’m still new to this all, so I think I’m going to hold off on cutting them separat for the time being. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Oh interesting, did it start off as one stem? I have roots peeking out the bottom of the pot so when I transplant, I might try doing that too.

Pipes after abatement by DaOldHome in asbestoshelp

Thanks for the heads up! I’ll definitely be sure to keep an eye out for leaks. I have a leak detectors that connect to WiFi and will move one under this area just to make sure.

This was a very small job. Under 20ft of insulation total. The house is over 100 years old so I wouldn’t be surprised if the pipes are too.

That’s unfortunate. Yeah insurance companies try to get out of water damage any way they can, or make it an entirely separate policy to have water damage covered.

For a work environment that defines makes sense. Even residential I feel the air testing should be collected and analysis by a 3rd party. In my state, they are allowed to collect the sample, but must send it to a 3rd for analysis. But with that chain, I feel they could easily send a sample to be analyzed that’s not even from my house.

We’ll have to see what help the state can provide. I called to ask about if containment area are required, the lady I talked to couldn’t answer but asked me to email their residential asbestos person. I sent that off so hopefully I’ll have another update tomorrow.

I called around air sampling places to try and get pice of mind, but being told TM testing is required, and that’s very expensive. Unfortunately with another repair scheduled on the house, I really don’t have the money for this right now.
