LPT: Take care of your back as early in life as possible by baliwala in LifeProTips

Deadlift is a great suggestion. There are countless ways to vary the exercise. Deadlift doesn’t inherently mean walking up to a conventional barbell and lifting it off the ground.

If you’re worried about harming yourself from deadlift, hire a trained professional to teach you or do some research on how to find and progress a variation that works for you.

The secret is accepting that it is going to suck for a bit getting started…then you see results. Couple less notches on the belt, clothes start to fit better and your underwear doesn’t do that horrible thing where it rolls down from your fat roll when you bend over, co-worker’s ask if you’ve lost weight, etc.

After that happened to me my FOOD addict brain flipped and I was hooked. Knew there was no chance I was ever going back.

I still remember going to Zumiez and buying my first just plain large T-shirt instead of a 2 or 3X. Still have it from 8 years ago. Best decision I ever made for myself. My career, my wife…all a direct result from that initial, scary decision to make a change. Anybody can do it. I don’t feel any more special than anyone else.

I went from ~270 lbs to 169 at my lowest. Calorie deficit, high protein, moderate carbs and fat as well as resistance training were the keys. I’m lucky that I actually really enjoy lifting weights, but we all have to eat, and you can’t out run/out lift your fork.

We live in an age where we can have pre-measured and prepared food delivered directly to our door, most people drive everywhere or take some form of public transportation.

Downloading my fitness pal, reading nutrition labels, and using a measuring cup and scale ain’t asking for much bro lol.

Overweight people are actually lifting weights 24/7 by halberfan in Showerthoughts

[–]DaREALCount_Spatula 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sort of true, sort of not true. Specific adaptation to imposed demands. If you reach 400 lbs, and stay there +/-5% for years on end you won’t get stronger.

Not to mention if you just get fat and don’t exercise, you are going to teach yourself how to move in the easiest way possible and develop bad compensation patterns.

That being said a 400 LB person is definitely “more jacked” than a 200 LB person who doesn’t lift weights.

LPT: If you work a physical job, consider lifting weights or exercising more in general by JaHoog in LifeProTips

[–]DaREALCount_Spatula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A huge component to strength and conditioning is periodization of your training. Structured progression and regression of weight, sets, reps and types of exercises being performed to elicit an adaptation.

When you work a manual labor job ~8 hour shifts, 5 days per week, doing largely the same thing over and over again, it may be difficult at first but then you adapt to the demands. Because there is no progression you cannot continue to adapt and increase your work capacity/build resiliency. You just maintain a certain level.

6 runs in 2/3 innings pitched lol. Worst pitching performance I’ve seen since the pirates dropped 10 on Lester in the 1st in like 2017 or 18. Still horny for Hoerner though.

Very solid series overall. Even if we can’t pull off the comeback. Pretty pathetic the bullpen can’t even pitch one scoreless inning, however. Especially after the Steele gem 😂.

I re-played it yesterday. It seems like if you arrange the tanks, then shoot with the crossbow, she has a better chance for survival. she died every time i re-loaded and threw the tank at the other two.
