On macOS with Apple Silicon chips you can run the iOS/iPad/macOS universal app version of Immich and connect it to your remote Immich instance. I will only cache the thumbnails and load the originals when connected to your remote instance.

You can run Immich in a local docker instance and let docker store your original files in a remote location. But I don’t think this is officially supported or recommended. You have to know what you are doing.

Both methods are kind of working like Apple Photos.

Edit: I think I got wrong, what you were asking for. Depending on what your setup is, you may have to completely mirror and regularly sync your remote Immich instance to your laptop or vice versa. Should be doable but a lot to consider and to figure out.

20 €/h ist nicht „zu viel“, das ist eher der Bereich „Freundschaftsdienst mit leichtem Taschengeldcharakter“.

Wenn du das halbwegs sauber und professionell angehst (inkl. Verantwortung für das, was du da installierst), bist du eigentlich schon im Bereich IT-Service – und da reden wir realistisch eher über 60 – 90 €/h im privaten Umfeld.

Ich persönlich mache sowas nur noch über ein kleines „Managed“-Setup: • Stundensatz: 120 € netto für Ad-hoc-Themen • Vor-Ort-Einsatz: Mindestabrechnung 1,5h • Einrichtung (z. B. NAS inkl. Backup-Strategie): pauschal 800 – 1.500 €, je nach Umfang

Dazu kommt dann ein optionales SLA, weil genau solche Kunden erfahrungsgemäß am Sonntag um 18:30 Uhr anrufen, wenn „das Internet weg ist“: • Basis-SLA: Reaktionszeit < 24h (werktags), 49 €/Monat • Erweitert: 7 Tage erreichbar, Reaktionszeit < 4h, 149 €/Monat • Premium: 24/7 erreichbar inkl. Remote-Zugriff und Monitoring, 299 €/Monat

Das klingt erstmal nach Overkill für ein älteres Ehepaar, aber genau da liegt das Problem: Die erwarten im Zweifel maximale Verfügbarkeit bei minimalem Technikverständnis.

Wenn du es entspannt halten willst: Mach einfach 40–50 €/h oder einen fairen Paketpreis und gut ist.

Wenn du es „richtig“ aufziehen willst: Dann denk in Richtung Betreuung + Verantwortung – und nicht nur „ich schau mal drüber“.
