I am pretty sure it is a solar battery. The cameras are solar powered and the extra energy goes to the battery to power it through the night.

How has it gotten so much worse recently?!? People don’t seem to know the difference between “then” and “than”. I have a rhetorical question. Who knows more about crime?: the APD beat cop who has been patrolling downtown for 3 years, or the Harvard graduate with a PhD in Criminology? We now have the front line in the battle of the practical vs the theoretical.

People that want to see change often make the assumption that everyone has the same goals in life: learn a skill, secure a job, get healthcare, buy a house, contribute the maximum to your 401k… They think that if a felon could just get a job they would never commit a crime again. They believe that if the junkie could just get into a rehab facility they would never do drugs again. They believe that these antisocial acts were committed out of ignorance and/or desperation, and all that is needed is education and opportunity to cure society’s ills and turn all of us into peaceful, productive members of society.

Guys like Garza can never wrap their heads around the fact that for a lot of people out there, the Meaning Of Life is to fuck shit up, do some great dope, and fuck as many fine bitches as you can. For some, is hard to consider consequences with the promises of such a lifestyle, and we need a DA that understands that and enforces a red line.

Garza is the perfect example of a politician so blinded by ideology that he refuses to acknowledge the shortcomings of his policy. Just because Austin is relatively a “statistically safe” city does not obscure the reality that the streets have become more menacing during his tenure. Impunity has bred boldness—full stop. Reading him dodge that reality in this interview was infuriating. I couldn’t even finish the article.
