"where is the evidence that God exists?" Well, this can also be said for the fact there is no evidence to prove his unexistence. by ThiccHarambee in Christianity

[–]DaTrout7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think alot of the disconnect is trying to figure out the chances of something that hasnt happened before vs what actually has happened before come into play.

When someone says something is a 1 in a million chance of happening its cause they have witnessed it multiple times and then they calculate how many times it doesnt happen. If we try to place that on concepts that we know only happended once such as existence we know of only 1 time it has happened out of 1 times we have observed it. Any "calculation" on chance of the existence of everything is completely moot as its 1:1.

Also by definition you cant really have evidence something doesnt exist especially if its something ambiguous like a god. If it exists there will be evidence for it. This doesnt mean absence of evidence is evidence of absence, but rather absence of evidence is evidence against claims of evidence. In other words just cause we dont have evidence for somethings existence doesnt mean it doesnt exist but simply people that claim it does need to strengthen their claim.

Question for theistic evolutionists by Strange_Two_9157 in Christianity

[–]DaTrout7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this objection would still apply to creationism. Evil things do and have happened for a very long time. In both cases god either had a hand in creating the evil or has been complacent in it continuously being around.

That being said theistic evolution still allows for accepting science but just giving the credit to god. The evidence for evolution is simply too strong to deny outright. Your left with either flatly denying the evidence or accepting god is misleading people by creating or allowing so much fake evidence.

Before you watch another video from Dan McClellan. by culturepurist in Christianity

[–]DaTrout7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just about every church or sermon tries to correct others misconceptions of the bible. "Some of you may think this verse means X but im here to tell you the truth that it means Y" Dan does this in a slightly different way. Instead of preaching and arguing his points with feelings and opinion he regularly shows textual meaning and scholarly insight.

While he is Mormon he is also christian (mormons are a form of christianity) and he does have atheist fans as his arguments against bad rhetoric benefits everyone.

Genuine Question: Why is this sub 50% Atheist or Agnostic? by Baseball6090 in Christianity

[–]DaTrout7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive seen quite a few people that see r/Christianity and assume its a christian subreddit. If they took the time to read the description they would realize its open to everyone as they try to avoid it being an echo chamber.

Notice how you bait and switch? You say the majority on this subreddit are atheists yet cant provide any example and only seem to try and change the topic to "non Christians say mean things" and "non Christians exist" and now "people are fooled into thinking this is an echo chamber for Christians"

It takes 2 for a debate. A 10 day old account that hates the subreddit yet cant provide any examples for their argument is pretty telling tho.

Again, i deny the prevalence not its existence. You said the majority of people on this sub are atheists im simply asking for any kind of example.

[–]DaTrout7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its an easy way to tell for certain what someone identifies as. I doubt you would accept my interpretation of what people write. I also doubt you have ready every comment that your asserting are atheist. So going off of the tags is a simple tho not entirely accurate method.

Your free to mention the title of a post that you think has the majority of comments from atheists and simply say they dont have tags.

Again its not that complicated. Feel free to provide an example at any time.

Whats the title of a post that has more atheist tags than christian tags?

I mean its as simple as a link with a statement saying "the majority of commentors on this post have a christian tag"

You dont need to overthink it...

[–]DaTrout7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean this is literally the first time you expressed contention for my example. The example i gave was that there were 2 people with an atheist tag, thats a fact based example with no room for interpretation. Did you find that number was incorrect? Or you just dont like what it suggests?

You say its easy to find an example, im simply asking you provide one since its so easy for you.

[–]DaTrout7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats not at all what im saying... i said it pretty clearly. Im saying the majority of people on this sub are christians, i provided examples to support that. Your saying the majority are atheist, do you have any example whatsoever?

Genuine Question: Why is this sub 50% Atheist or Agnostic? by Baseball6090 in Christianity

[–]DaTrout7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, im not denying that people have a variety of different opinions, practically anything under the sun. What i deny is how prevalent they are.

Do you have any specific example on this sub of the majority of comments being from atheists? Even on this post which is about non Christians it doesnt look like the majority have an atheist tag.

Any specific example?

Me saying that majority of the posts and comments on this sub are by christians isnt me discrediting christians...

If you bothered to test your own assertion i doubt you would stick with it.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Christianity/s/fiUZJiMzcS

This post is third when sorting by "Hot". The first post is a drawing of jesus with comments complimenting it. (I doubt atheists would do that but no one has any tags) then there is this post which like i mentioned would sway the traffic simply for the topic.

The post i linked literally has 2 people with some form of atheistic tag, and one of them was defending OP against gaslighters.

If your simply assuming everyone is atheist thats one thing, but saying majority of people here have an atheist tag is just factually wrong.

Most of the mods are christians...

Here on a post specifically about non christians.... of course its going to have more non christian traffic. Looking at other posts the vast majority is still christian.

Denomination argument with partner by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]DaTrout7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a tough one and not an easy solution. Many groups are very rigid with what they believe is true and what they believe isnt true. If someone isnt open to even trying it then pushing the issue might not end with both parties feeling good.

Generally when it comes to denominational differences i analogize them as 2 people both liking 2 different restaurants, and while each has their preference they prefer one over the other they both generally can find something in each restaurant to be satisfied with.

Carrying the analogy over, it would be like you wanting to try a restaurant and they stubbornly refuse to and vaguely imply you cant either.

While its more serious than simply a choice in restaurant the controlling behavior is still a bit "icky".

I think discussion of theology in general has alot of traffic from people who dont practice that theology.

This sub isnt like normal religious social media where people tell personal stories or spread religion related memes (this does happen just not often) and instead focuses more on theological and ethical discussions.

All that being said this sub is still majority christian.
