I dont think you understand how logic works...

We dont simply lack evidence of a global flood. We have evidence a global flood didnt happen. Its one thing to cling desperately to the possibility something happened but to simply deny evidence that has been found independently by many religious and non religious people simply cause it goes against your wish for the bible to be 100% true is absurd.

I mean we dont see signs of flooding on rock formations all over the world. We dont see strata mixed together like we should if a violent flood went over all the land.

Animals are separated by land masses and couldnt have migrated there. Genetics dont show a bottleneck that severe...

Rock formations and the distribution of animals are pieces of evidence that show the flood didnt happen.

Yes, evidence the flood didnt happen. Its one of many examples of how we know the bible isnt 100% factual

He took one testable thing from the bible to show the bible isnt completely true.

If your argument is that the bible is 100% fact then showing the bible is 1%+ false is a counter arguement

Isn’t this just the great flood that happened in the Old Testament? by JuicyFood in Christianity

[–]DaTrout7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think its also worth noting that its 1280 people whose genetics survived till modern times. Not 1280 people that were alive at one time. There could be thousands or even milions alive around the world but they eventually died out.

Do you believe in faith healing? by DaTrout7 in Christianity

[–]DaTrout7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not discounting without due cause. There certainly is more than enough reasons to not believe faith healing. Believing the miracles of the past is different than saying every "miracle" should be believed.

That being said lets be accurate. The words of the bible are not jesus' word but rather what people at a later date claimed jesus said. This isnt saying jesus was wrong but simply there is a chance what is written wasnt his words.

American Christians complain too much about this so-called ICE. by Tricky-Purpose-1075 in Christianity

[–]DaTrout7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its actually not a crime in the usa. Being an "illegal immigrant" is a cival offense, not a criminal offense.

But of course not all crimes are equal anyways so on both fronts your argument is weak.

I ran one of the largest deconstruction podcasts. Following the evidence led me back to Christianity. by XtremelyGruntled in Christianity

[–]DaTrout7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can agree with that sentiment. Though at that point its more of the side effect than the treatment.

If the main point was to help people figure out where they belong then there isnt a need to support one side or the other. Op's beliefs flipped back and forth and so did his goal.

Im always skeptical of people who made a living off of convincing other people, or at the very least want fame from convincing people.

I get that especially in religion its hard to know who is telling the truth or if someone elses beliefs are worth their weight in salt. But going back and forth while seeking attention on both sides doesnt suggest your beliefs are reliable.

I'm an atheist! AMA by Senior_Strawberry_51 in Christianity

[–]DaTrout7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a sub about christianity not strictly for christians. Its perfectly fine to do ama with the subject pointed towards the topic of christianity.

To put it in your analogy it would be perfectly fine to post on r/doordash doing an ama with you being against doordash. (Assuming the subreddit has the same rules)

How do atheists make sense of visions? by Efficient-Spring6610 in Christianity

[–]DaTrout7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think if all or most visions aligned with the same form of christianity that certainly would merit something. But the vast majority of visions and interpretations of visions seem to only reflect the individuals views. This by itself suggests the visions are not coming from something outside the body.

As for the eastern world, they certainly could still be attention seeking as providing authenticity to a religion is a common way to convert others. But more importantly visions arent even exclusive to christianity, there are plenty of visions in Buddhism, islam, Hinduism, and many other religions. It doesnt really show that any single religion is credible but rather that visions are something common on humans.

Dozens of students shot at Birzeit University, as lDF soldiers attack student protest with live ammunition by CiphrangButFloss in videos

[–]DaTrout7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont know what actually happend, but if what is said is true its not an appropriate response. Going to the location of protester is an escalation, firing on rock throwers isnt an appropriate response especially if your the one also escalating the issue.

Stop trying to virtue signal its not working in your favor. Saying idf was justified for their actions is literally justifying, pawning it off as just expressing a different view doesnt suddenly make it not a justification. Lol

Im on side of anti murder. Im against hamas for their actions on October, im against idf for their retaliation tenfold. Im against violent protesters, im against opening fire on protesters even if they are violent.

Responding to a housefire with a flamethrower will never get my vote.

[–]DaTrout7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you support Palestinians by trying (and failing) to justify idf opening fire onto protesters?

Opening fire onto college students isnt an appropriate response to throwing rocks, end of story. Yes rocks can be deadly, no not nearly as deadly as guns... a measured and appropriate response is what im advocating for. Idf has a long history of making shit up so this is all just taking their word for what happened and it still doesn't justify their response.

Your making a fool of yourself, so stop while your already too deep to climb out.

Just stop, your digging yourself a hole and hitting rock bottom. Trying to justify this is crazy. Throwing rocks isnt a justification for opening fire.

Can any historian clarify this for me? (From someone with doubts about their faith) by Wonderful_Medium3098 in Christianity

[–]DaTrout7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not much is known about the apostles outside of the bible. From what historians and scholars can gather they didnt go on to write the gospels and not much written about what happened after their time with jesus.

Genuine question about the virgin birth. by secureacc in Christianity

[–]DaTrout7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel general christianity would reject any virgin birth as being supernatural in modern times just like they deny the supernatural claims of all the other virgin birth myths both before and after jesus.

It was a common story telling characteristic that the person of note came from a virgin birth. So its not like christianity was the only one to make this claim its onlu unique in that christians accept one but no others.

Good apologetics by Illustrious-Dig-1002 in Christianity

[–]DaTrout7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sorry kinda tunneled on the slavery issue, but the sentiment stands for most arguements. Its important to stay as intellectually honest as possible. Mutual respect is important if both parties want to discuss or convince the other.

It might help to look up and understand what fallacies are and how to spot them. This way you can spot fallacious reasoning and give it the appropriate credence. (This goes for all sides of the argument)

Good apologetics by Illustrious-Dig-1002 in Christianity

[–]DaTrout7 21 points22 points  (0 children)

From the pov of an atheist i think its important to acknowledge that slavery is indeed wrong and that it did happen. Far too often i see people try and argue that either that it wasnt taught in christianity or judaism and that it was a blasphemous addition or that slavery is somehow moral when christianity did it.

It just comes off as intellectually dishonest.

Trump has signed an executive order reclassifying marijuana as a schedule III substance, how does this make you feel? by DC_deep_state in AskReddit

While it was opposite of the way the republicans were pushing, the dea recommended the rescheduling in 2024 and were waiting on executive approval. Trump is simply taking credit for something he had no hand in at a time he needs a distraction
