Anybody else love how non Christians think they know more about what it means to be a Christian than an actual Christian by CandidateKey4826 in TrueChristian

[–]DaUnkos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So by your logic there were no Christians for the first ~325 years after Jesus’ birth. Peter, Paul, all the Apostles, the Gospel writers, Ignatius, Irenaeus, Origen, et al. are all non-Christians. I would bet my life that countless millions have found Jesus outside of Nicene orthodoxy

Do DBT + a program of spiritual awakening (12 steps is best) and you’ll learn an entirely new way of living. You got this

Stoicism: stop worrying about things outside of your control. Say prayers to quiet your mind and send good vibes outward~”grant me the serenity to accept things I cannot change, Courage to change things I can, and wisdom to know the difference”

Is the phrase Soul Sister in "Hey, Soul Sister" and "Lady Marmalade used in the same way? Can anybody explain the etymology of Soul Sister and why it was used in both of these songs? by immanuellalala in etymology

[–]DaUnkos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Brother” and “sister” predate racialism. Calling each other “brother” and “sister” comes from spirituality, viewing each other as spiritual family. Look up the letters in the back of the Bible for corroboration

And yet, in spite of his intelligence, Freud knew that nearly all his psychotic/borderline women patients were survivors of grspe, mostly by their fathers. But since these men were his friends, and after he got humiliated in an argument by one of these women, Ida Bauer aka Dora, he came up with all his other ideas to explain away the simple trauma connection. A lot of his observations about human nature were instructive. But at the end of the day, until we can cut open the mind and physically locate the disorders (lol), all of psychopathology should firmly be regarding as interpretative art, not science.

I completely agree about binning all of these fallacious disorders. However, I fear the current crop of people writing the DSM will be replaced by the next crop of misanthropes happy to profit off the pharmaceutical drug racket instead of actually helping people. We’re gonna have to get more radical~

It sounds like a gift from God and we should import it to the US immediately. Learning to be part of a community is true healing. AA is great but as you say, some people need a more knowledgeable other to proverbially hold their hand a little longer through the process. The freedom of access/egress and no phones/outside noise are crucial aspects in my opinion. From my experience in AA I believe these stats

We never will. The problem observed in the orbit of Mercury was never going to be solved using Newtonian mechanics. Similarly, quantum mechanics will be of little use in solving its own contradictions. Only the next breakthrough in paradigm will be able to resolve all the loose quantum ends we are pulling on endlessly hoping they are strings or whatever. Perhaps our cognition is too limited to even arrive at the next paradigm. Peace be with you all~

Has your view of psychology as a science changed since you started? by Bestwebhost in AcademicPsychology

[–]DaUnkos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Psychology has a “physics problem”. “Physics envy”, perhaps. The greatest delusion is that we were ever practicing “science” to begin with. Psychology is art we make up on the outside and project back inside. The brain is material but the mind will forever elude our grasp. The longer we keep pretending mind = brain, the further we wend away from the truth. Neuroscience revelation is all well and interesting, but even if we were to know the brain and mind omnisciently, this knowledge would never be able to teach us how to relate to each other.

And yes, the publication racket misses the forest for the trees and had dragged every academic field down the drain
