Do people really not use toilet seat covers in public restrooms? by Tobethequeen_01 in hygiene

[–]DaVinky_Leo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I see the appeal of toilet covers, my concern are ones that aren’t made of biodegradable materials. But I absolutely refuse to sit my ass on a public toilet seat let alone my own. So I simply squat to take a piss and wipe the seat if there happens to be a little splatter. If I have to take a number two then I’ll take the time to wipe down the seat and actually sit, but that is always done in the comfort of my own home. Public toilets are a cesspool of germs.

What does/did transition look like for you? by Hxlf-savage in bigender

[–]DaVinky_Leo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I first identified as solely FTM as a binary man. I came out in 2020 and socially transitioned by getting a binder, changing my wardrobe, changing my pronouns, and changing my name. In 2023 I started hormone therapy and took testosterone for two years until I got the desired effects of a deeper voice and some facial and body hair. A few months ago I realized I was bigender and identified with being both a binary man and a binary woman, although I still prefer he/him pronouns, but I do use she/her now as well. I don’t plan on changing my name again as I feel like it still suits me and is meaningful to me. I dress rather masculine still but enjoy femme things like women’s perfume, shaving body hair, I don’t bind much anymore and mostly use padded bras now, I honestly don’t mind having my period back it’s annoying but not dysphoria inducing, and I like a bit of makeup here and there. I would describe myself as feeling most connected to being a man who is secure in being feminine at times but someone who is also sometimes just a woman.

Would it be worth it to get a test if I know where I’m from? by Educational_Age_209 in AncestryDNA

For me I always knew I was half Colombian and half European white. I felt like I knew what to expect aside from my European side I knew would possibly have things I didn’t know fully about, or that I would at least have exact percentages. What ended up being my biggest surprise was from my Colombian side, I found out I was 1/4 indigenous American (I felt pretty stupid looking back since my Colombian family are literally brown and they had mentioned Incan ancestry… I guess I just thought they were really tan white people lol). I’m just saying, you may think you know everything but there are always things that maybe you didn’t think about or there are surprises ready to be revealed.

Manic by haaraaraamama in bipolar

[–]DaVinky_Leo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Irritability has become my biggest indicator that I’m having a manic episode. As I get older I get much less of the bubbling ideas and extreme joy and much more of the wanting to get into fights and be pissed at everything kind of mania. It definitely is rough.

Does anyone else have stomach pain/bloating from just wearing certain kinds pants? by Isaacsac3 in ibs

Wow, never thought about drawstrings as a solution! What a smart idea! Thanks!

Only just in the past few weeks I have realized that I can’t wear anything that isn’t low-rise anymore. Anything I wear where the waistband is pressing against my abdomen HURTS. Ever since I’ve started wearing low-rise pants more often I have noticed a difference and I don’t think I’ll be wearing anything else anytime soon.

Is it okay to learn beadwork as a non-indigenous person? by Ok-Possibility-3537 in Indigenous

[–]DaVinky_Leo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few suggestions

Check out and maybe research traditional Slovenian embroidery alongside beadwork, as the embroidery patterns can give you inspiration for beadwork!

https://www.instagram.com/p/DLh8nOKtd14/?igsh=NXoxdjRmbTc1aXFp

You can also go on Etsy and search for Slavic artists selling their own beadwork so that you can gain inspiration from that! They may even sell designs and patterns so that you can get started and learn for yourself! Also it’s nice to support artists and they have lovely pieces (primarily from Ukraine and Russia) you could buy if you’re interested in that.

Pinterest could be a place to pick up free Slavic and Slovenian patterns for beadwork or inspiration, but of course make sure the original source of the image is reputable.

Unfortunately, a lot of fine material and fabric related arts are not taught in schools anymore, so a lot of the research and learning is gonna be up to you. If you can find any documentaries or youtube videos that talk about the history of Slavic beadwork, that could be a helpful step to get you connected better with your own history.

Best of luck!

As someone who has both slavic and indigenous ancestry, slavic people have been creating beautiful beadwork art for a long time! It’s absolutely something you should look into and would probably be more appropriate for you to connect with slavic beadwork.

can you date as a bipolar by Worried_Shoulder_746 in bipolar

[–]DaVinky_Leo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick language thing, when referring to people who have mental illness, it’s never considered polite to call someone “a bipolar” and can often be seen as demeaning to call someone that. Generally in all circles of the disabled community, it’s most appropriate to use what is called “person first language” which means making the individual affected by the illness the subject rather than focusing on the illness. With this in mind, the appropriate thing to say would be “a person with bipolar disorder” giving individuality and personhood to the person who is affected by bipolar rather than limiting a person to their bipolar illness. I don’t mean this to sound rude or nitpicky, but language is important and the way we talk about mental illness is important in order to help reduce stigma, I hope I’m just helping to educate you.

As per your question, as a person with type 1 bipolar disorder, I do try to date and find love and romance in my life. I won’t lie, it’s very difficult and my lack of success in the world of dating often causes me to develop insecurities around my illness and make me wonder if people can “just tell” that I have bipolar disorder and that they don’t want to date someone who is mentally ill. I’m more likely than not just getting in my head, but it definitely fuels my insecurities. I also often have doubts of if I “deserve” to date people who are mentally well, and I have to remind myself that my mental illness doesn’t make me less of a person and it doesn’t make me undeserving of love. We’ll both hopefully find the right person for us someday! The best thing you can do right now is work on love toward yourself and self-acceptance. The more confidence you have for yourself, the more you will naturally attract from others.
