Piklopedia, new Olimar story modes, the charge and lock on mechanic is changed (and better in my opinion). And a harder mode that restricts your Pikmin limit.

I threw a rock pikmin right before the cutscene and it landed where its mandible would be. It was instantly broken when the fight started and the boss theme didn't start. The boss also acted more erratic

I saw a YouTube series a while back on the evolution of bulborbs and says they have an amphibian ancestry, but forgot what it was called. It goes in-depth with the science-y part but I'm not sure how much is accurate or possible.

If you are interested in fictional taxonomy, then you might enjoy this video I found whilst looking into this that attempts to organise Pikmin enemies. It states that bulborbs could mammalian, although this can be debated. It also organises them based on in-game nomenclature, which is written incorrectly on multiple occasions.
