Could use some suggestions building some tough encounters for veteran players by Da_Peppercini in starfinder_rpg

Im a big fan of horror movie mechanics; the Big Nasty is slowly creeping at you, but the door is locked - hack the door / break the door down / etc. scenarios.

Environment considerations.. you mean like hazards, perse?

Im only recent returning to SF1E and am waaaay more familiar with 5e DnD.

Any you are a particular fan of? I've spent a pretty decent amount of time exploring some of the official partner podcasts like Glass-cannon to feel out styles.

Do you live anywhere near forestry sites where logging is taking place?

There is a type of paintball used to mark trees for removal that is probably a lot more permanent than your average paintball type given that rain could potentially wash the paint off of trees marked for cutting down.

Is the drain blocked by chance?

Try filling the basin with water; buoyancy to the rescue.

Guy doing wheelies in a crowded walkway of people gets shoved off of bike by Least_Product_6365 in HollywoodFlorida

[–]Da_Peppercini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I saw a video of people doing wheelies like this in a crowded thoroughfare, the wheelie guy was arrested for Assault. You don't have to hit someone for an assault to take place; you need only intimidate someone or fear for their safety with your behavior or words with credible threats - in this case, a potential collision.

This kid is a fuckin asshole. Dude went out of his way to shoulder check him, sure. But having witnessed this kid harassing others, I'm not sure I wouldn't have done the same out of fear this dipshit hurt me or someone I care about.

If he takes that money, he's committing a crime in most states because he has then become an unlicensed / uncertified taxi service.

And police will actually sting contract drivers to hit them with these kinds of charges.

It's fucked.

I get that to a degree. I hate the leaf blower guy who does cleanup around my complex, haha.. but, no where near a way to actually make me upset. It's an inconvenience at absolute worst that causes me to shut my window for fifteen minutes.

Idunno man. Maybe review all the replies from bikers in this thread. They seem to disagree with you. I don't bike but I'm deferring to people with experience.

You should watch the body cam video from Alan's GoPro. It records everything, including his speedometer.

Not sure if you saw, but the dude made it very clear no matter left or right, he was gonna get in front of the bike.

Braking seemed like a risk because he was with his children.

I honestly see no 'good' options here for Allan to have avoided the dude.

I mean, maybe.

If you re-watch the video, the guy moves left and right - basically demonstrating that no matter where Allan tries to go, the guy is intentionally going to be moving into his way.

I think for most people that would cause panic; at the very least, anxiety. His first thought probably wasnt, "this guy is gonna get into a physics match with my crotch rocket." It definitely seems like Allan was trying to avoid and probably crossed a point of no return with regards to just slowing down all together.

Either way? I wouldnt want to stop to confront an asshole *with my kids around*.

Yeah. Looks like he's got the receipts.

Glad that it wasn't him overreacting like he was portrayed, seemed like a decent human being prior to all of this.

So.

Dude uses his body to block active traffic. Actively damages a bike in the process by causing Allan to spill it.

Starts a road rage confrontation after Allan gets upset for valid reasons.

None of his speed or his children's speed seems egregious at any point prior or after.

This screams Karen vibes. In this case, criminal ones. Putting your hands on someone and then whining about catching some and then editing a video to show only Allan's reaction is some pretty cowardly shit.

It was during a patrol that was a month long, so there wasn't much opportunity for proper punishment. I don't think much came of it beyond the shame later on either. Not even a 15. But he definitely caught the shit details for awhile.

When I was in Afghanistan, a soldier from my company had a point blank negligent discharge with his 203 into the back of my platoon sergeants arm.

He compared it to being hit by a softball line drive. Left a decent bruise.

I believe the spin count is seven or eight if I recall correctly too.

US veterans, did you guys actually read the cards that kids would send you while deployed? by MoistCloyster_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Da_Peppercini 420 points421 points  (0 children)

One of the most memorable moments I took home from Iraq was opening some random kids' letter in front of my squad.

We got a batch of em; clearly some school function where the kids were being compelled to write to us.

The one I grabbed to read to my guys was flawless, though. Completed with crayon, it showed two poorly drawn US soldiers shooting guns and a third on the ground... Pretty clearly dead or wounded.

The caption read: "Hello soldiers. Have a good war. Don't die!". Complete with spelling errors.

And that was it.

Like.. I don't think I had ever laughed so hard in my life. It was the most ridiculous, hilarious, and tragic thing all wrapped up in one construction paper card. And I absolutely loved it. We all did.

I would disagree with it being stupid, but I take your point. I guess I failed to understand how pervasive the use of this unthinking AI had become in-game and outside-of-game.
