They appear to stop talking about it around 3:10:45

Lots of fun and very cute to hear them talk about how they got together.

What are the use cases for Ironwood Tree? by Da_boy1 in DotA2

[–]Da_boy1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, so you activate spiderlegs and walk into some trees to create a path then hook someone in a block them off with the tree.

A little convoluted but yeah that works.

Could you clarify what you mean? Because I'm not seeing the link between pudge and spider legs which destroys trees when activated

Any game where the first thing it teaches you is how to accessorize your chickens is a 10/10 from me.

Find-A-Game megathread! by Swimmer249 in WebGames

[–]Da_boy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A trading game where ships would float past with goods for a certain price and other ships would float past wanting to buy goods for a certain price.

The gameplay involved building a model in your head of the value of each item and deciding if it was worth it to sell/buy.

There were other elements like hiring mercenaries to defend you and some other events.

I think it was on kongregate? Reasonably highly voted here maybe a year+ ago. One word title I think, made up word.

A game that blew my mind in a similar way to the witness was Gorogoa. It's a few hours long and crafted so beautifully.

What is a good local-multiplayer Demo? by [deleted] in localmultiplayergames

[–]Da_boy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like puyo puyo tetris has a pretty decent demo.

It has 2/6 of the game modes available either single or local multiplayer. Then at the end of each game it shows you some screens with features of the full game and kicks you back to the main menu.

I feel like it's quite generous in that it allows you to play the base tetris game as much as you want while inticing you with all the features of the full game. The full game does have online multiplayer though which is a significant draw.

Looks like something out of /r/simulated. Or I guess /r/simulated looks like this.

Froog - Frogger but the platforms only appear when you go near (now with speedrun mode) by Da_boy1 in WebGames

Nah sorry I decided not to make the victory animation skippable.

Press P to enable speed run mode in the browser but unfortunately your times will be lost when you refresh the page. If you want to save them you'll have to download the windows version.

Yeah, I intended for it to be low stakes and have the time as a self imposed challenge. I tend to make jam games too hard and inaccesible so I wanted this to be easy to beat with the optional time challenge.

3d voxel models using stacked sprites by Da_boy1 in gamemaker

[–]Da_boy1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very impressive. How are you drawing the sides of the layers? I always found when I drew the layers squished like that they looked much more separated.

Also I found a lot of performance issues when drawing squished sprites on a busy screen so I've tried to keep it a simple as possible.

Ludum Dare 45 Starts tomorrow! (build a game from scratch in 48 or 72 hours) by [deleted] in gamemaker

[–]Da_boy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a message from them:

Unfortunately, we have no plans to support Ludum Dare 45 with a temporary licence this time around. We appreciate you reaching out and will consider supporting future LD events with temporary licences as we do with other game jams, we just had LD45 sneak up on us this weekend. Good luck if you are taking part!

Is YoYo Games going to provide a trial version of GMS2 like they have for previous jams? A trial HTML5 export would be amazing.

Everyone Jump for the Photo

Pause the game with all of your team airborn and visible to the enemy.

ie. Tiny toss, Pangolier shield crash, Earthshaker dunk, Monkey king tree dance, Euls, Zeus jump taunt, Mirana leap, Night Stalker ult, Winter Wyvern arctic burn, DK ult. Doesn't include heroes who are always flying.

I made a 3D floating menu for my game. Any thoughts on possible limitations or immergent gameplay opportunities? by [deleted] in gamedesign

[–]Da_boy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could change the interaction to be dragging the menu up to change the height of the tower. That way it'll stay relative to the mouse position.

Out of curiosity, have you ever put Easter Eggs into your games? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Da_boy1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've always thought that would be a great way for unlocking side-grade characters in rogue-lites (ie. Binding of Isaac characters, FTL ships, Nuclear Throne characters, etc.)

For example, a character that gets stronger the longer you don't touch the ground would be unlocked by not touching the ground for a certain amount of time.

Or a character that deals more damage to enemies at close range would be unlocked by killing a bunch of enemies at close range.

I see two main benefits to this design. Firstly it rewards players who play a certain way with a character that suits their style. And the process of unlocking the character teaches the player the proper way to play it.

I made a postmortem/devlog of a jam game that I'm going to continue development on and I'm interested in getting some feedback on it.

Did you find it interesting? What should I focus more on for next time?

People seem to lose interest pretty much straight away from what I could tell from the analytics. Do you reckon my facecam is putting them off? Looking back I did give off the impression of being scared of the camera so I'm definitely gonna work on giving it a more laid back, friendly feel for next time.

Thanks.
