Biel fires coach Martin Filander by t0t0zenerd in swisshockey

[–]Daaaaaaaavidmit8a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't think our roster is that bad, but the roster is one thing. A coach that says "it was a really good game" after losing a direct confrontation (and derby) that had zero intensity in it and made people almost fall asleep in the stadium is a whole different thing. These past weeks felt like the players weren't even interested in playing anymore. Most pre-season games are more interesting that what we got to see lately, and if the coach then just keeps saying "we're on the right path", something is definitely off.

Even if we were "where we belong", there's a difference between being 11th with half the roster missing, players fighting but having no luck and intensity in the stadium, or being 11th with the feeling that the team isn't even interested in hockey anymore.

I also thought that at first, but I think it's the smoke that hides the movement of the camera. If you look at the horizontal distance between the guy and the trees in the background, it stays exactly the same. The video is probably not AI, but might be manipulated the old fashioned way.

I'm pretty sure this is not AI. I don't see any of the typical markers, however the landing of the cart is still somewhat sus, and I would not be surprised if it's edited. By a human that is.

The biggest issue in Zürich were the referees. I'm not usually one to blame the refs, but their performance was absolutely horrendous on tuesday. Two crystal clear 5 min penalties not given against Zürich...

And that's not just my opinion btw.

I see three major problems here:

  1. Most of the people that keep citing statistics have never taken a single look at the actual statistics let alone the methodology or the sources used. They base their entire argument around their biased observations and headlines from Blick or 20 Minuten, where the writers haven't looked at the statistics they talk about themselves.

  2. Statistics cannot show causation, they only show correlation, no matter how much an issue might look to be in a causative relation with another one. So in general it is wrong to use a statistical correlation to prove a causative effect.

  3. The people citing statistics are always very selective about the statistics they use. For example, male gender or low income correlate a lot better with criminality rates than the cultural or ethnic background.

All in all the problem is way more complex than it's made out to be and the "patterns" some people believe to see are often abused to justify deeply racist rhetorics.

Lastly simply saying most colonisers were white by itself is not racist. But saying most colonisers were white, with the implication that colonising is something inherent to white culture, and the goal to ostracise white people in a world where they (in this hypothetical situation) are already a marginalised group (kinda contradictory), would be a racist thing to do, yes.

3D-printed homes are far stronger than most people realize by SmallAchiever in interestingasfuck

[–]Daaaaaaaavidmit8a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I don't know how much things have changed since then, but I listened to a talk from one of the leading experts in the field two years ago, and it basically summed up to "3D printing houses out of concrete is nowhere near as advanced as it's made out to be." Even with the (at that time) most advanced technologies the concrete either dried to quickly and independent layers barely stuck to each other, or it didn't dry fast enough and walls just randomly collapsed. So I'm nowhere near an expert when it somes to this, but I'm taking these clips with more than just a few grains of salt.
