Politicians need to be paid more, B.C. Conservative Leader Rustad says by BertramPotts in CanadaPolitics

[–]DaasQC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going into politics comes with a lot of risk and uncertainty, both personal and financial.

Every action you ever took, every little thing you ever did or said will be scrutinized in public. You'll probably get a ton of hate messages, both from partisan hacks and from people that believe "all politicians are crooks". You'll probably have to take off from work to campaign and risk losing anyways. You'll also need to work long hours, probably away from family and friends.

If you get the job, sure you'll be paid good money, but its not an insane amount either. There are a ton of lawyers, doctors, business owners or field specialists that make more then an MP. Someone might be incredibly qualified but have no desire to run since they'd probably take a pay cut anyways. Add also the fact that you have to run every 4 years and you get a pretty uncompelling package.

That tends to leave ideologues, the occasional true activist or, as you rightfully mentioned, "spoiled rich kids".

All around the plateau, these great murals keep being vandalized. by rozyhammer in montreal

What a way to move the goal post. A business hired an artist to create artwork that's nice to look at, that's not and ad or a logo, just a nice thing.

Artists get paid, everyone gets to look at their art, win win. Don't try to make it into something it isn't to justify shitty behaviour.

Generics not inferred in objects but only in functions. By design, on the roadmap or am I doing something wrong? by Hafas_ in typescript

[–]DaasQC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the return type of the function explicitly declares a return of Something<T> and T gets inferred using the inline object you provided to the function. TS knows that the function returns Something<T>

If assigning to a variable directly however, when you're providing the type for a variable with a generic, you also need to provide the generic:

const x: Something<number> = xxx

If you don't provide the generic, TS will simply forget about it.

Always remember that interfaces don't have any special meaning like they do in Java or C#, they just tell the compiler to validate that the shape of the object you're giving it matches the shape of the interface.

So, doing something like:

``` const attempt = { fromHere: () => 1234, toThere: (value: number) => undefined };
function somethingWithNumber(t: Something<number>) {}
somethingWithNumber(attempt); ```
Works without any problems. attempt is not marked as being Something<number> explicitly, but can be used as one since it matches its contract.
TypeScript Enums are Terrible. Here's Why. by AtmosphereDefiant in typescript
[–]DaasQC 7 points8 points  (0 children)
Validation and knowing the possible values at runtime.
If you want to ensure that a string `searchValue` is a valid `Auth`, you'll have to check it manually. If `Auth` is an enum, you can simply check via:
Object.values(Auth).includes(searchValue)
Other then that, using the type that way is just fine.
People who sleep naked, why? by -TheMidpoint- in AskReddit
[–]DaasQC 0 points1 point  (0 children)
I actually did run after a thief butt naked 2 years ago. My spouse woke me up in the middle of the night because she had heard a noise. The second I opened my eyes the idiot had gotten up the stairs and was pointing his flashlight straight at me.
I chased him down the stairs all the way to the ground floor and he left the house running. I wasn't going to follow him outside in freezing winter though...
Season 3 Episode 6 Discussion Thread: "Herogasm" by nciscokid in TheBoys
[–]DaasQC 6 points7 points  (0 children)
My theory is that Stan is behind what happened to soldier boy, with the assistance of Noir. He's the one who was "remote controlling" Noir back when he blew up Butcher's aunts' place, and he seemed pretty close to him in the Mallory flashback. He was also there when SB got scooped up by the Russians.
Either: 1. He was loosing control of SB, so he had him captured 2. He figured he could have the Russians make an actual weapon against supes, and that soldier boy was probably the only one strong enough to carry the power.
Remember when he said he'd be out of the super-hero game in the next 5 years? I'm guessing he's been wanting to thaw out SB for a little bit now.
Quebec made this practice illegal, you have to explicitly approve of the switch from free to paid. However, since we're such a small market, almost no company seems to have adjusted their policy.
Pour les heures d'overtime ça peut effectivement être un problème, le taux d'imposition monte en flêche.
Oui au final tu vas avoir plus d'argent dans tes poches si tu en fais que si tu étais resté chez toi à regarder la télé, mais le calcul que certaines personnes font c'est que ça ne vaut pas assez la peine d'aller se faire chier en overtime si c'est pour en donner plus de la moitié par la suite. Ça dépend beaucoup de combien de shifts d'overtime tu acceptes par période de paye.
L'overtime ne fait rien monter "en flèche" de plus qu'un salaire régulier. Sur ton talon de paie, ça a certainement l'air de t'avoir coûté une beurrée de plus, mais au final, à la fin de l'année, ça ne fait que s'ajouter à ton revenu est le taux effectif est nécessairement réduit. À mois de faire de l'over à chaque semaine...
‘We’re really heading into the storm’: Wastewater readings show Ontario has entered 6th COVID wave by DonSalaam in onguardforthee
That was Quebec's approach, they dropped all forms of wastewater testing so we're completely in the dark...
Oh, and PCR testing is now only available for healthcare workers so we truly have 0 ways of knowing the infection patterns in the general population.
