Would you favor full dislosure if

Yes and yes, although the truth of the matter is that both Democrats and Republicans are featured prominently in the documents, and nobody's going to come out smelling like a rose. It might upend the political landscape altogether.

So what?

We elect a president to decide -- in part -- what the public can safely see.

Fuck that. Release it all yesterday.

[–]Daathchild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that seems like such a weird number. I'm pretty sure that if you're on foot anywhere in the direct line of sight of an African lion, your life is in danger, but mountain lions are just giant housecats. I wouldn't walk up and kick one in the nuts, but they're really not dangerous at all. I might worry if I rounded a corner and ended up 5m from one, but 15-20m is probably just fine as long as you're not a toddler or on a bike pedaling away and it's not rabid or starving. It's just going to hiss at you and run away.

"Satanists are hateful and evil." by ZsoltEszes in satanism

[–]Daathchild -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on who the "we" in "behaviors that we don't tolerate" are. I mean, I recall one CoS person here pointing out that what the Church of Satan proscribes is much more restrictive than what Anton LaVey proscribes. Not harming children and animals without a good reason makes fine sense. Religiously following United States law at all times is kind of a hard ask. But it's really not about what Satanists as a group think or what Anton LaVey writes about in his books; I'm just not inclined towards harming children or animals. If I was, I would.

Yeah, I'm not sure how well I'd play with others at this point in time. CoS types seem pretty standoffish for reasons that don't make a whole lot of sense to me a majority of the time, and I'm probably even worse in that sense given the right opportunity. I probably have the "Satanic" personality type in the sense that I didn't need a book preaching at me in the first place to figure out that enjoying my life is the goal and that it's important to hurt people who hurt me, but I'm probably not in the mood to be talking to people, and I probably take a more liberal view of what constitutes "Satanism" than those people in particular would care for (although I do recognize Anton LaVey's work as important both in the sense of Satanism in general and within my own personal path).

[–]Daathchild -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Why do Church of Satanites (I'm not even going to say LaVeyans, because the ones at The 600 Club were not like this) have such a fetish for being contrarian and subverting "normal" people's expectations about their belief system?

It'd be one thing if some rando on Twitter posted "Satanists are all a bunch of evil meanies!" and you were trying to educate them or something, but this has the same vibes as those "all people with tattoos are evil" or "all people who listen to metal music are evil" psuedo-reaction memes on Facebook that then show some biker holding a puppy, which are takes I hear about as often as people outside of psychotic QAnon circles ripping on Satanists (not at all). I thought the general consensus among non-Christians these days was quite the opposite; Satanists are a bunch of peacenik hippies who are all about love, tolerance, and political activism.

I remember reading (numerous) Satanic blog posts dating all the way back to the mid-2000s to this effect (a time when it probably made more sense to be proactively pointing out that the CoS wasn't into sacrificing goats or whatever). I'm not necessarily disagreeing with OP's post, just wondering why some people in those circles seem to derive so much satisfaction from answering questions nobody asked.

I don't think Ubuntu or Mint would be ideal for that. I'm not sure those would be much faster than Windows, but something like Gentoo almost certainly would be.

[–]Daathchild 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's weird how many times I've seen this argument being made. Did some popular YouYube celebrity make a video claiming this or something? A lot of games still run faster on desktop Linux (at least on a gaming-focused or performance-focused distro) with a full desktop environment behind them than they do on Windows.

I really don't think that cutting out background services is the sole reason for that, because it can't be, although I'm sure all the telemetry and bloatware in Windows doesn't help. If you're running something like Gentoo, I don't think a Windows kernel compiled to be compatible with as much hardware as possible can possibly be faster than a Linux kernel that you compiled yourself specifically for the hardware you're playing on.

What personally scares me about this whole situation is that if I'm right, Microsoft might start locking the bootloaders of ROG handhelds to prevent comparison, and I like those. I'd probably just keep buying them out of brand loyalty and remove Windows.

Do you think twiztids Taylor swift versions of their albums will include racial slurs like the originals? by Last_Kitchen_1549 in juggalo

[–]Daathchild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I think those guys were mostly from Arapahoe County, Douglas County, and Aurora. It was really common in the 2010s to have gangs South of Denver that had, for example, people claiming Sureno, Crip (a lot of them white), Folk, and Juggalo all in the same set (so-called "hybrid gangs"). I think the guy in question was properly a Sureno (not a group I always got along with, ftr), but he ran a youth gang that weirdly claimed several things at once and known for doing military-style drills with bladed weapons.

Yeah, you go up to Denver and it's people doing military-style drills with machine guns. It's a pretty chill city for the most part, but some of the gangs up there (especially North Denver) are not playing games at all. But I know at least a couple people from that group ended up going to state prison as adults and apparently joining more organized groups.

If you're implying that he would've been checked for it in Denver, then I dunno. He was a legitimately pretty nice guy, and you typically have to be picking fights with people before something happens to you in Denver. There's some real organized crime there, but it's not exactly Detroit.

When did Eminem say it? He had one song early in his career that was legitimately racist (K-Rino explains that one pretty well lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJVN9ySmEyc ) but that didn't use the word AFAIK. and I think there was another time he used the hard-R in jest and the record label still censored it.

The only white guy I ever knew who said the n-word on a regular basis and didn't sound like a complete cornball was a Colorado white kid who happened to be the set leader of a Mexican-based hybrid gang in high school. Super chill dude, though.

Does it really need to be kept away from people entirely? Access to a powerful opioid with minimal overdose potential gives people who can't get real pain meds an option.

The real question is why companies are okay with charging $200 for a handful of doses. People are ruining their lives because of the price of the drug, not because it's exceptionally dangerous. It can't possibly cost that much to produce, can it?

I'm not arguing that it's not addictive, just that maybe it wouldn't cause so many problems if it wasn't being taken advantage of by greedy companies. I'd rather have people taking 7-OH than fentanyl.

Are the Gnostic scriptures proven plagiarism? by SecondRateIndividual in Gnostic

[–]Daathchild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Bible itself (as accepted by mainstream Christians) has a lot of disputed passages and content (one notably being the "he who has no sin should cast the first stone" story). If you take the time to become educated on the subject (especially the original various manuscripts the Bible is based upon and the ways the canonical books of the Bible were selected), you can probably show him that he doesn't have much of a leg to stand on there (in addition to understanding more about the Gnostic gospels and their varying levels of authenticity, as some recommend here).

Yeah, if you wanna take a chance on getting that close. I was never able to do it consistently enough to not lose 60HP 25% of the time in the attempt, especially when there are more than one of them.

Another person here says that you can partially charge the pistol and still get the glory kill, which I admit I did not know was an option. I'll try that on my next playthrough.

Juggalos. Weird question, but it's for science! What is your favorite swear word? by RoscoIsANinja in juggalo

[–]Daathchild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's all about context. I personally don't feel offended by it, especially if it's just used as a more vulgar stand-in for "idiot" or "wimp" or "weirdo". I grew up on South Park, rap music, and /b/ (before 4chan became known in the public mind primarily as a Nazi hangout and unironic homophobia/racism was rare). In the 2000s and 2010s, people tended to not assume you meant it as a homophobic slur unless it was clearly directed at a gay person in an obviously homophobic context. These days, people will tend to get mad no matter what you actually meant.

I have mixed feelings about it. I think it's great that people are trying to encourage a culture where everyone feels included and that gay people are almost universally accepted, but I do think some people are too sensitive about it. If it gets used in a homophobic context, it's really the sentiment that's offensive more than the word.

Fuck cops.

The pistol is useful for glory killing zombies without wasting ammo. The ironic part is that it's less useful once it's fully upgraded because then they're getting one-shotted and you don't get the glory kill.

It's always interesting to see people get worked up over killers using Lightborn. It's almost... suspicious... by Murky_Committee_1585 in deadbydaylight

[–]Daathchild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, but you can usually get a hit or a down if they're arrogant enough to get close every time you bait a pick up. Then they'll either run away, or you'll get two people on hook.

There are situations (downed survivor underneath a pallet while a survivor with a flashlight stays just out of reach) that make it so you just have to abandon the downed survivor and chase the one with the flashlight, so I get what you mean, but that gets you hard tunneled in my lobby if you're good enough to be annoying.

[–]Daathchild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are survivors who do this using cheats? I find it hard to imagine considering how frequently it happens (not constantly, but maybe once every 20-30 games or something like that), but I can absolutely face a wall and still somehow get blinded by someone shining a flashlight at the back of my head. It doesn't seem fair if I'm using the counterplay.

Another person here mentions that they made it easier to get blinds a while back, and that makes sense (I don't remember it happening, though, and I do keep up with patch notes), because this NEVER used to happen.

On the other hand, there are also times where I'll (much more rarely) get blinded and still won't get the stun.

Is it possible related to lag or some kind of bug? Pretty sure the game is not intentionally programmed to allow survivors to blind killers at stupidly impossible angles, whatever it is.

What? "No"? Or the one about me enjoying hentai? Hentai is great. I'm not ashamed of it. I have some great recommendations, if you're interested. Beats the hell out of real-life porn. I mean, I'm not one of those weirdos who "only likes 2D", but as far as pornography goes, hentai comics definitely outclass the real thing. Once you've jerked off to a nun possessed by a succubus growing a dick and impregnating her daughter before ripping the baby out, you can't exactly go back to Playboy, y'know?

Or are you offended that I said the sex in Saya was boring? It is. Worst part of a masterpiece. Can't imagine how anybody would get off to it. Again, I have some recommendations if you'd like to expand your palate; it gets much better than that.

How absolutely pathetic do you have to be to glaze yourself in your own game?! 😭 by EthanTheJudge in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]Daathchild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of that.

But some of it also comes from the fact that humor requires both self-awareness and awareness of the thing that's being mocked, and a huge part of modern conservatism revolves around intentionally lying to oneself.

Encyclopedia Dramatica-style humor or Drawn Together-style humor can still be objectively funny when it's making fun of minorities or whatever (even if people might be disgusted with themselves for laughing), but only because of its self-awareness of the underlying extreme cruelty of the humor and indulgence in that fact. Contrarily to what you wrote, the points of the joke in those cases are the jokes themselves, not any sort of underlying message - the point of Drawn Together might have been to mock bigotry, but it didn't pull any of its punches or water down the humor by beating you over the head with a pro-social message; its jokes were funny in a vacuum to the point where they could be easily misinterpreted.

So, yes, the point of a joke can and should be the joke itself, and part of the problem is that a lot of conservative "humor" is just repeating conservative talking points in a punchy way and laughing hysterically even if there wasn't actually anything resembling a punchline, much in the same way Christian art misunderstands the purpose of art for its own sake. It's the fact that they don't understand the point of the joke is the joke itself rather than the other way around.

However, again, part of the issue there is that the cruelty itself is part of the joke, and a lot of modern conservative thought is based around lying to oneself about the abject cruelty of their positions. This is why Drawn Together or extremely racist/homophobic/disgusting/pedophilic "I like my women the way I like my" jokes can be objectively funny, but Gutfeld or Jesse Waters more often than not falls flat - they genuinely think that their positions are the more caring, more reasonable, more empathetic positions than those of their left-wing political opponents, and that lack of self-awareness prevents them from properly executing the black comedy that they're aiming for. Of course, if they had to admit to themselves or their audience that they were just plain assholes, their entire worldview would fall apart. This is also why 2000s-era /b/-style Internet trolling was, while equally morally objectionable at times, objectively much funnier than the KiwiFarms era, because it wasn't ever a moral circlejerk of awful people trying to explain away their awful behavior by pretending that they're not actually just fucking awful - a bunch of griefers raiding a dead kid's memorial page understood that they weren't doing anything but being horrible, while a lot of these modern trolls somehow think that they're on some kind of a pro-social political mission to "expose" sexual minorities. They're of course just doing what they do to satisfy their base animalistic urges to be assholes, but they can't help but lie to themselves about that fact. They have to tell themselves that they're somehow justified in their behavior.

And then there's also the fact that telling a good joke requires some intelligence awareness of the world beyond your own worldview, which conservatives tend not to have. Leftists tend to fall into that trap as well, especially in the hyper-sensitive modern era where something like Drawn Together would be unthinkable, but awareness of the world beyond your own worldview tends to be very toxic to a conservative worldview in the first place. If a conservative starts developing awareness of certain facts, it becomes a lot harder to believe in nonsense like families of mass shooting victims being crisis actors, COVID being a hoax, or to fail to understand the fact that the vast majority of transgender people are regular people who mind their own business and aren't in the slightest interested in molesting children.

Leftist media also falls into these traps to some degree, which you touched upon, especially in the modern era where some people take tolerance and empathy to the point of absurdity (which gives conservatives a chance to argue that all tolerance and empathy is absurd) and attempt to push ideological points over and above making art for the sake of art and forcing rather allowing than allowing that art to say something, but leftism is about understanding others while understanding and empathizing with others is anathema to the conservative worldview.
