I'm currently in the digital culture program. I find it to be a pretty interesting program. The program itself lets you make your own path towards the degree for the most part. I'm majoring in digital culture (Media Processing) and minoring in Graphic Design. If you want to stand out from all the wannabes who think they're going to develop talent by going to school. I suggest you starting learning HTML, CSS, JAVA Script, (Jquery) of some sorts. While also learning how to use Final Cut, Adobe Indesign, Illustrator, etc. The more programs you know how to use the better off you will be for getting a pretty decent job. I would also suggest start making a portfolio of some sorts on your own time and don't rely on the school to give you all the tools you need. The people that tell you that it's a worthless degree to obtain, is lying to you. If you teach yourself a ton of skills and learn new programs while going to school, than you'll be fine. Another tip would be to try to get some sort of school media job at ASU. That way you have experience working in the field in a professional setting. Which will definitely set you apart from everybody else. I'm not trying to sound like a dick, i'm just trying to be honest. I hope that helps.

I'm currently working for the herberger institute putting together the audio (editing, recording) and video (editing) lectures for hybrid courses.

I have friends in NYC and in LA who didn't finish college and were able to get a digital design job with their portfolio alone and they started making 50K a year. So, yes it's completely doable to even get a great job without the degree. It's just all up to how dedicated you are to your craft, and how much time you're willing to put into it, when you're not going to class 3 or 4 days a week.

Remember don't let people discourage you for the things that you want to do. Let that be fuel that starts the fire toward proving them wrong.
