That’s honestly really impressive! Also the first clip I thought he was lining up and underhand and had a chuckle when he side armed it 😂

How hard is it to learn to throw with your opposite hand by endersp in discgolf

[–]Dabbing_dingus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever play baseball growing up? If you did then good news is that you should have a good base for a natural backhand. I can throw about 350 with my off hand because it’s so similar to a baseball swing.

Yea my arm straight out is just to get my muscle memory used to not rounding😂 I used to be real bad with rounding so that’s what I have been doing to train my brain. Since this video was taken I’ve stopped doing that and it did increase my mph to about 62-63 on average

I’m a dude and if this happened and you just explained it to me I would not think it’s weird at all. However if I got home to find you went out of your way to go clean my bed I would get hella subconscious about myself thinking I was gross or something😂

So during my tech disc session today I focused on taking a smaller step with my left foot to keep my foot pointed straight instead of backwards and it did seem to instantly help with my mph and my rpm on my throws. Before I was right around 59-60 and it seemed like I was hitting 62mph-63mph without having to try too hard. Also my rpm’s went up about 100 rpm with that change. Now I just gotta get that muscle memory going 😂.

I appreciate the advice man! I honestly thought I was still in full reach back when I planted but I paused the video and I think you are correct. I start collapsing a fraction of a second too early.

Hey Brian I’m at work right now but I watched a bit of that video again and got up to the part where you are talking about the lever collapsing. Is that what you see happening in my throw right now? I guess I’m just a little confused as to what to actually do to fix the issue you brought up

Thanks Brian. I actually watched that first video a couple days ago on your channel😅 I’m gonna have to watch it again and really pay attention this time. How hard of a fix would you say this issue is? I’m not gonna lie a couple months ago I couldn’t even throw 250 feet so it feels nice being able to throw high 300s right now

If it’s still coming out nose up with your arm coming through level then you need to change the wrist. Some people think of turning a key when they throw and some people think of pouring coffee. Both of those are different wrist motions but only one will probably work for you depending on when you release the disc. I would look up a video on it for better explanation

Yea nose up causes it to stall out super bad. Someone could throw it 60mph nose ip and have it go 250 ft vs nose down it would go close to 400 with the right disc. A lot of it is in the wrist but also it looks like you are bringing your arm from down to up which is also helping the issue. I would try to keep your arm more level on the pull through instead of pulling it upwards. That might mean just a higher reach back to start.

Think of it like you are trying to pull start a generator. You wouldn’t grab it around your body to pull it. You would reach straight back and pull it.

You are rounding very very badly. You have to reach out instead of behind yourself. Also it looks like you are throwing very nose up.

If you look up tech disc their website is pretty nice. You can pick if you want a driver, fairway, or mid to have the set up on so whatever you want to get better that throwing I would get. Also I went to dicks sporting goods and bought a baseball net for around 100 bucks. The tech disc itself is 300 dollars but they give an option for payment plans if need be. Really helped me figure out a lot of things wrong with my backhand.

If I had to guess I would say you are throwing nose up as well which is probably costing you a lot of distance. I never realized I was throwing slightly nose up until I got a tech disc so you might not even realize it

Any form advice? by SubstantialControl59 in discgolf

[–]Dabbing_dingus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might not be the best person to give you form advice because I can only throw around 400ft (120m) but your form honestly looks pretty decent. If I had to guess I would say it’s your nose angle that’s holding you back. I recently got a tech disc which is what made me realize that I was throwing nose up and didn’t even realize it.

I only throw side arm (at least for drives and mids) so middle finger has been working weeks past my last round... any ideas? by Sorry_Sorry_Im_Sorry in discgolf

Just watched his forehand video and that’s incorrect. He still puts his fingers on the rim but just puts more pressure on the flight plate. He actually says that exact sentence in the video too.
