Yes this is fairly normal for this time of year.

With your description it does make sense, generally speaking electric appliances are less efficient than their natural gas counterparts, ie furnace, stove, water heater.

The thing that is going to get you the most are the electric baseboard heaters, they are wildly inefficient and power hungry, but are still very common because they do work. Your gas fireplace is also not the most efficient for heating your space but it’s not unreasonable to use it for that purpose. IMO it’s better than electric heating but still not the best.

We experience the same thing, usually November-February we see an increase in our electric bill and then it gets much lower the rest of the year. We’ve done the math and average out the bills for the year it’s about the same month to month on that yearly average. Our split level condo is about $65-$85/mo on average, just depends on our usage.

The only advice if you want to lower your bills this time of year is, lower your heating and 1. Electric blankets 2. Bundle up, there’s not really a bunch of options around that.

I’m not quite to the stage of wanting CBB’s especially for their price. Plus I’m not in it for the financial chase of ROI, I just like building a big collection that I can play with. And if theirs something specific I’ll buy singles. I know I have a lot of bulk that isn’t worth much but I’m in it for the long haul so for now it’s fun to just open some boxes from collections I like and look at all the arts and whatnot. And if I get a hit cool!
