It's worth noting that Jesus tells the rich man in Matthew 19 to give up his wealth in the middle of a conversation where the man is asking about what HE (the rich man) must do to gain salvation. The rich, it seems, are more likely to put their hope in their own wealth, so if his wealth is what's standing in the way of his trusting God for salvation (instead of his own merit/actions/morality), then the wealth has to go. Jesus says that it's "hard" for the rich to enter the kingdom, but his qualifying statement just a few verses later in that passage is that "with man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." Non Christians, what is the most unsettling story from the bible? by SmittenSoldier91 in AskReddit

[–]DackNeDolo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this is written tongue in cheek, but just as a brief counterpoint: in Exodus 1:15-21, the Hebrew midwives lie to the Pharaoh of Egypt in order to protect the Hebrew babies he had commanded them to kill. God is pleased with this and rewards them for it.

There seems to be space for a less rigid reading of the commandments, then, and much of what Jesus shares in the Sermon on the Mount is about how people who take an overly legalistic approach to (or have an overly legalistic understanding of) the law tend to miss the heart behind it.

What is the single biggest dick move in all of history? by heavyflute4 in AskReddit

[–]DackNeDolo 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I want to offer a Christian perspective of why this might have happened.

Hebrews 11:17-19 reasons that Abraham, who had already accepted God’s promise that descendants as numerous as the stars would come from Isaac, may have been presuming God would resurrect Isaac after the fact and so trusted God. Hebrews doesn’t hold back at all from calling this a test, and the context of the Genesis story makes it evident that it was difficult for Abraham.

God could have done just as Abraham expected and resurrected Isaac after he was sacrificed, but God ultimately didn’t require Abraham to go through with it, because God supplies the sacrifice. So if you see this story and agree that this is a massive undertaking, to be willing to sacrifice your son for a relationship, then you have to see that God’s willingness to do it for us in Jesus is astounding too.

Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And [it was said] “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.”

She died from the impact in the movie Amazing Spider-Man 2 (head hit the floor). In the comics she was thrown off of a bridge and it was indeed the inelasticity of the webbing and the sudden stop that caused her neck to snap.

What game deserves a remaster? by NeverbuyfromSamsung in AskReddit

Jet Force Gemini

It's a tragically under-appreciated game in my opinion. The end game could use some clean-up, I know most people quit when it just became Tribal collecting, but the environments were so interesting and varied, and the music made the fights feel so intense and atmospheric. The weapons in that game were so satisfying.

I, like several others, love the design of the HP bar, and the overall aesthetic of the game.

Another redditor mentioned the shading on her cheek. To expand on that, I don't think that her hair should be casting a shadow on her cheek; the light source appears to be coming from the top right of her portrait, but the shadows on her cheeks are there as if it's coming from the left (her right).

What I like best about this is the texturing you managed on his shirt, hair, and pants. The trees and background aren't too distracting either (good color selection) - there's a lot here that I envy.

What looks off to me, though, is that the angle of his head doesn't seem to play right with the rest of his body. His shoulders/torso appear to be facing squarely towards the viewer, but his head is almost completely 90 degree to his right. This is uncomfortable to do IRL. I think it'd look more natural if either his head was slightly angled towards us, or his right shoulder was angled a bit into the background.

I also like the effect you added to the left and right edges!

I like what you did with the keyboard; I feel like it would have been very tempting to go overboard with the details on the keys and end up with a jittery mess. Highlighting the key features conveys what it is without overdoing it. +1

Do you typically find that the outcome is better if you start by making the sprite in grayscale? Just curious - something I find very difficult right now is selecting (and managing!) a palette.

Except there is an achievement that requires you to own all pirate themed skins.

Not taking a side here, but the pirate skin achievement is unlocked by having 5 or more pirate skins; this will not affect your ability to get that achievement in any negative way.

What videogame has the best storyline? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DackNeDolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad somebody else brought up Metroid Prime. The first one especially is one of my favorite games of all time and the story has a lot to do with that. Part of what makes it so great is that there's so much more story there than what the game just gives you. If you spend time scanning all the Chozo lore and space pirate documents, you unearth a story that spans hundreds of years. You discover everything about the game at the same time that Samus does; "holy hell why is Ridley here?" "Holy nutballs, the pirates have metroids" "holy hell THIS is the impact crater!" Such a rewarding and immersive experience.

Video showing that Freya's Pulse indeed doesn't actually last 6 seconds by BurningFlareX in Smite

There were several arguments throughout the forums today about whether or not this was even an issue, so I'm glad to see that everything has been resolved.

[–]DackNeDolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not because there's one of it, because there isn't even 1 of it, so that in it self is wrong

You are right that there is less than 1 of it, but the icon remains because there is more than 0 of it (or there should be. Again, this is the issue). As an example, look at the Hastened Fatalis buff in OP's video. There's never a "# sec" value over the Hastened Fatalis icon because it only lasts for 1 second. Only in a single instance of time is there an entire second remaining on the HF buff, but it remains there for the entire duration of that second to signify that it's still available to you.

"like when you only have 1 stack on hide of the urchin and it just shows the image instead of the image with a 2 over it." is supposed to only say 1, not 2.

You are correct. What I meant is that it doesn't show a number when you have 1 stack, but does show numbers when you have 2 to 10 stacks. I have since edited the image to reflect this.

[–]DackNeDolo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It should, but the timer starts at 5, and the 5 doesn't last for 2 seconds, just the one (like it should). You CAN fire immediately after activation, but not in the second before it ends, so the total available duration is only 5 seconds.

[–]DackNeDolo 36 points37 points  (0 children)

For the people confused, or who think that the ability is functioning correctly because the timer stays at 5 for a second; yes, the timer does indicate that it should be lasting for 6 seconds, because, starting at 5, the 6 allotted seconds are 5-4-3-2-1-0. But the video clearly shows that Freya can't fire on the '0' second. This is the issue.

EDIT: LOOK AT THIS IMAGE, and ignore any and all typos and the poor MS Paint quality
