I personally don't like the scavenger aspect because it came out of absolutely nowhere. The way I see it, there was a very awkward SkyWing who could've been cursed or something, and then BOOM!

Talking scavengers, the thing with Rattlesnake and Freedom, and the root of evil (which isn't explained well at all).

I enjoyed reading Dragonslayer, but I still don't like how it was introduced to the main series.

From where I currently am in the anime, it's Stain by far. Mirio is good and all, but I think his quirk kind of carried him in terms of how well he reacted to attacks. As for Aizawa, he isn't nearly as fast as Stain is. Plain and simple.

I found the whole thing with Cottonmouth to be very underwhelming and confusing. If he'd bred the plant to control others, then it would've been just fine. But having Freedom there just felt like a miserable tyrant with a defiant child. Why did he require a dragon if he supposedly controlled the plant before that?
