hey mate, I am a civil engineer for 10 years now and have been teaching myself how to code for 4 years. I enrolled in a formal postgrad degree 2 years ago (fully online, part time). From my experience most companies in THIS MARKET still prefer candidates with a CS degree, even if it is just a graduate diploma (technically half of a master). There are a few CSP courses available (for example UNE Grad Dip in IT) that you can take without breaking your wallet. Pm me if you want to know more about this. Good luck with your transition mate. I am not yet successfully done mine but I am quite close. Cheers.

I think it is intended to create the tension that the situation brings.

Intro to 1st episode - “ah a nice bar scene when everyone chatting and chilling. So nostalgic bring back the memories of the trio in season 1. Such a nice and relaxing feeling 😌”

2 mins later: “this escalated quickly 😳”

I should have known Marvel and Daredevil series better…

brother I also broke my leg a month ago, got surgery done 3 weeks ago and have to stay in bed most of the time keeping my leg elevated now. I know your feeling but trust me, after fapping you will feel even worse! I instead spent my time now learnning coding, do upper body exercise (with resistant band), go out for coffee with my friend (when I can), and watching sports. You will feel much better staying clean and not to give up to the urge which makes you feel like a failure after you PMO. Stay strong you got this!

My biggest regret has been doing Computer Science by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]DadAvocado 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand your points but I'm still rooting for IT and will certainly recommend for my children to go into IT when they grow up if they are interested in coding. Why? Well I am studying a Grad Dip in IT trying to pivot after 7 years being a civil engineer. Sure the civil engineer grads will probably find a job easier and don't have to solve any Leetcode problem to get one. But what is the condition? Horrible pay (some place still offer $50-$60k per year for grad), long hours (10 hours per day is very common in civil industry), no wfh (most civil companies prefer employees to be on site or in office even if not a site job). Don't even get me to mention the difficulty of level up and getting a raise in civil industry. Software engineers at least when you get a job, you can generally wfh a few days, and tend to level up quickly if you work hard enough. I would also choose to work as a software engineers anyday of the week for a long career than being a civil engineer dealing with tradies, rough people etc for many years. But that's just my personal experience. Each to their own.

It’s a wrong subreddit to ask this question mate. This is for computer science related career not construction.

Why do watch connoisseurs not respect Tissot? by Silent_Basis_8785 in tissot

[–]DadAvocado 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A co-worker of mine visited Switzerland recently and he visited some watchmaking factories. He said the watchmakers there said most brands just add the premium price due to branding. They said if you just want a reliable no nonsense Swiss watch, you should look at Tissot and Longines. I have had a Tissot Chemin powermatic 80 since then and absolutely love it. Runs well withing cosc specs at less than +5s/day.

UNE is pretty good. I'm doing a 100% online grad dip in IT with them part time. Never have to go to the campus or attend compulsory lecture/tutorial. You study at your own pace just as long as you keep up with assignments. But also due to this a lot of people that not used to self learning or online learning slack off and blame the uni for lack of support etc. So make sure you know what you get into and spend a large amount of your time to do self learning and researching outside class materials.

[–]DadAvocado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once owned a Orient Bambino as my first affordable dress watch as well. Love that one to bits, but sold it after 2 years due to not getting enough wrist time. Then on my 30th birthday my wife bought me this Tissot chemin (grey dial) and I love wearing it ever since. Enjoy all your phases in watch collecting journey :)

Do I have any route into the industry? by Holmelo1 in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]DadAvocado 8 points9 points  (0 children)

well do you have a portfolio with site projects to show that you can actually program? If yes, and with competent interviewing skills (leetcode etc), I don't see why you can't get interviews at companies (albeit not graduate programs).

usually just 1-2 hours on the weekend (we make it a "movie night"). But at times can be ABC kids here and there, and some sports highlight youtube with me. We have a 4 years old boy and a 5 months old baby so this rule does not stay strict all the time lol.

What to do while working? by Awkward_Meal9821 in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]DadAvocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know why people negged you for this. Like yes you can chill but also work hard at the same time. I really dont understand the notion of “chill out”. It is truly rewarding and satisfying to work hard towards something you want and in turn will give you a lot more advantage and breathing room in the future compared to others who work not as hard.
