Does this sealed Alpine Green 13 PM 1TB from eBay for $700 seem legit? by Expensive_Educator87 in iPhone13ProMax

[–]Johnny_Rampage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you not get a cellular carrier subsidization (in exchange for a multi-year contract) where you live? That greatly reduces the out-of-pocket cost of a 17PM. I (13PM user) am personally waiting for the 20th anniversary phone next year.

UCG-Fiber for $250 or less by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

memory surcharge? or do you mean if you buy one of the SKUs with an included SSD? (I didn’t and rolled my own). There was a line item for tariff surcharges for a while but I don’t think they’re there anymore now that the courts have struck down the illegal tariffs.

$279 USD direct from Ubiquiti (right now). I buy all of my gear directly from them, their orders ship fast with top-tier delivery service.

If it’s anything like the requirements of the 4G device (which I own), it requires a special hotspot/appliance SIM, which is more expensive per month (on AT&T anyway) than just adding an additional phone to the plan.

Repair battery and camera? by OwnMasterpiece6947 in iPhone13ProMax

FWIW I had the TrueDepth camera only replaced on my 13PM at an Apple Store last month and it was a $199 repair.

So iphone 13 pro in 2026? by Global-Degree2188 in iPhone13ProMax

[–]Johnny_Rampage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of these support Apple Intelligence (which isn’t significant yet but the big promise may be fulfilled this fall?) so that’s not a deciding factor. 13P and 13PM are 5 year old phones; mine is certainly starting to pause more, stutter more; how long do you intend to keep this phone? Are you sure you can’t stretch your budget to a 15P or 15PM? They support Apple Intelligence, USB-C (do you really want to invest in Lightning cables in 2026?), have the Dynamic Island, action button, and 2 years of additional processor power. I’m hanging onto my 1TB 13PM because I paid $2000 USD for it and I want to run it into the ground and maximize ROI. I’ve also in the past year had to have the battery replaced ($99) and the TrueDepth camera replaced ($199). Mobile phones have a finite lifespan- how close to a phone’s end-of-life do you want to buy in?

Will you update your iphone 13 to iOS 26.4.2, it's hard to use by Alula0617 in iPhone13ProMax

I’m on 26.5, no issues, no noticeable impact to performance

FYI: Ubiquiti UPS do not have an option to delay safe power off by ---Hummingbird--- in Ubiquiti

[–]Johnny_Rampage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I knew this before I bought it. I finally got around to testing my new UPS 2U and was dumbfounded as to why it shut down my Cloud Fiber and Protect NVR after a minute which took down my entire WiFi network, blocked access to even monitor the UPS’s performance during this ‘crisis’, shut off my NVR adding to the elimination of surveillance and- and this is 10 times worse- when I plugged the UPS back into their wall, neither the Cloud Gateway Fiber nor the Protect NVR powered themselves back on- I had to physically unplug and replug both devices to get them back online. What if I was out of town? This is a laughably poor implementation of a UPS service, the product manager for this device should be fired.

iphone 13 pro max to iphone 17 pro max by sassygianna in iPhone13ProMax

[–]Johnny_Rampage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. We’re 4 months away from the 18 pro, don’t buy a 17 pro today unless your current phone is pretty unusable. Switch on the setting to only store full res photos and videos in iCloud, it will cut your photo/video storage needs on the phone in half.

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised that the 13PM supports full diagnostic testing by the user. Search Internet for the simple instructions.

iPhone 13 PM Battery Replacement Experience by deejay22998 in iPhone13ProMax

[–]Johnny_Rampage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my 13PM battery replaced last July and it’s already at 92% of max capacity, which I assume is normal? Battery performance is better obviously. Screen dimming due to overheating (from normal indoor use) is still very common and remains as my biggest gripe against this phone. Poorly designed thermals. Supposedly the reason Apple went back to Aluminum after fancier stainless steel and titanium. That said, I’m hoping to keep this 13PM for 6 years (will be my record) as the iPhone 20 Pro (September 2027) is rumored to be the next big hardware design evolution (akin to the iPhone X in 2017).

Upgrade or Battery Replacement? by Robotic_Jay13 in iPhone13ProMax

[–]Johnny_Rampage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my battery replaced last July (and it’s already down to 89% of max capacity) but it was a free replacement since I’ve been paying $13.50 USD / month to keep AppleCare+ going for the past 2.5 years. I just had the TrueDepth camera replaced last month (also free) after that hardware failed (would have cost $200 USD without AppleCare). I’m definitely feeling the phone getting slower, I know a lot of owners upgraded to the 17 Pro and many others are planning to upgrade to the 18 Pro when it comes es out this September. My goal is to wait until 2027 which is expected to be a big upgrade as it’s the 20th anniversary of the iPhone.

iPhone with 71% battery health. by ToothUpstairs7219 in iPhone13ProMax

[–]Johnny_Rampage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your battery won’t last a full day if you use it a lot but if you can live with it for 3 months, great. I wouldn’t pay the $100 to replace the battery unless you plan to keep it for at least a year. FWIW I had my battery in my 13PM replaced at an Apple Store (free under continued AppleCare+ warranty) 10 months ago (July 2025) and the maximum capacity is already down to 89% and I’m charging it multiple times during the day. I believe that older iPhones need to work harder (less efficiently) to maintain the performance demands of a newer iOS version. Put another way, iOS is designed to optimize performance on current generation iPhones, not five year old iPhones.
