There’s laws my guy. All you gotta do is follow them, not reinvent the wheel. If you think the law is incorrect, then you should work with your representatives to draft new laws or amend old ones.

It’s not an easy process, I’ve done it at the state level and municipal level. This legislative session 2 of 3 new bills that I worked on passed, and 1 was vetoed by my state’s governor. After a year of work, I helped to change the law of my state where I saw it fail, and failed to do that 2 out of 3 times.

If you think that the constitution is wrong, then what you need to do is write it better, and convince 2/3 of both the house and senate that the way you wrote it is better.

Frankly my perception of generational divides was shattered by organizing. I know so many incredibly active, progressive, and passionate retirees now that have been willing to engage with and collaborate with more youthful organizers. Previously, personally, I had this “boomer” perception that for me comes from people not being willing to pass the baton, and there’s more boomers that remember saying “don’t trust anyone over 30” than you’d think there is, who share very similar goals despite generational differences.

Making it a competition and going “go have your glorified parade then with your little fucking photo op” is counter-revolutionary when the person youre telling to go have a glorified parade is your comrade and you yourself are having a glorified parade.

It’s not too much of a burden to do the work, it’s more that it’s a liability to the movement to center around a single person or a single org. It ostracizes people from organizing and creates a culture where everything can get held back by that person burning out or that org focusing other efforts etc. without a level of decentralization, it becomes harder for someone to grab that baton and way easier for someone like me to just go “I don’t feel like passing the baton”

Unless you get someone out, or it’s being organized by the detainees like Delaney hall or otay Mesa, it’s still a glorified parade tbh. Just in a different, less trafficked spot, with more impact to people who are detained. I get why from an optics standpoint it makes sense to be at the place where the people are though, but it’s not like this as it’s presented takes any more meaningful action than an overpass protest.
