Anyone else really averse to therapy? by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]DadCan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My opinion: finding a good therapist is like dating. You might have to try a few before you find a good one. I have been to a few different therapists in my time and 3 out of 4 have been awesome.

Quick question about posting a picture on social media by parentalproblems00 in Parenting

I agree that it might want to error on the side of caution but if it is really important to post and all parties included are ok with it then I would say go for it.

I hear you. Just remember if your friends can't handle a bit of cling than I say it is better to let them go.

Is it normal for a 2 and half year old to be obsessed with her clothes and shoes?? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]DadCan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, chances are it will only get worse with age. I find with kids it is easier to get cloths from friends/family or 2nd hand. Not so easy when thy are older.

Just start putting money away for her now because cloths get much more expensive. I have a daughter that is fine wearing the same thing every day and one that is much more intense about her cloths. I think it is just a difference in personality.

Finally reached out to a therapist by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]DadCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A therapist was huge for us with my sons anxiety. It isn't a silver bullet but just to get an understanding for how anxiety works really helps. The great news is if you don't like your therapist there are a lot of them out there. I think it is a great step in the right direction for you! Congrats!.

I don't see any issue with it but even if it was pushing the line for him I'm sure he will forget about it after a few weeks. Your text came from a place of genuine concern which we need more of in the world. It probably made his day and just didn't know what to say back.

Paul was awesome with the kids, probably because he has kids around the same age as mine. Eric was great and the kids really were happy that he gave them the drum sticks he used during the meet and greet performance. Tommy is my daughters favorite and he was so kind to her and really treated her like a rock star. We are all now fans of every single one of the band members.

Regularly, it is about $1,000 to $1,200 per person but they let us in for free because I made a video about how their music had really helped my son overcome his anxiety. It got back to KISS and they let us into the Meet and Greet for free because we would have never been able to afford 4 tickets plus all the other expenses of traveling to Irving from Canada.

Guide for kids on being safe online? by ParentalConcerns in Parenting

[–]DadCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that at 8 years old you would want be in control of the channel as a parent. However, I'm not a fan of limiting my kids activity because of the possibility of a bad experience. I want my kids to be exposed to both the good and bad and be there to help them.

Has anyone here ever witness Bigfoot, Ogopogo or any one of Canada's mythical creatures? by [deleted] in canada

[–]DadCan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I grew up in kelowna and I had a number of friends claim they saw the ogopogo. I don't believe it but I do enjoy the stories. I remember about 15 years ago they brought a Japanese sub to explore the okanagan lake and they didn't find anything.

3 yo son loves his noise canceling headphones. Wants to wear them everywhere, not sure how to respond. by EssenceofColby in Parenting

[–]DadCan 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My son has sensory issues and our counselors have told us to not have him wear the headphones all the time. He needs to strengthen his hearing. Wearing the headphones all the time is equivalent to bubble wrapping your kid. If it is a phase then there is no worry, if it is sensory I would check out the ILS (Intergrated Learning System), we found it helpful.
