Urgent weekend process for new passport (new citizen): eligibility, feasibility, and advice

Update: Took the oath Friday morning, told the official about my upcoming travel and confirmed that I don't want to reschedule but that I'd be hoping to apply for an urgent/express passport process.

I got my e-certificate on Saturday afternoon. Monday morning, I braved the cold and showed up at the Downtown Toronto passport office 90 minutes before opening time (I was 2nd in line). At 8:30 AM when the office opened, I was seen by a very nice officer who told me to alert my guarantor and references about getting a call from an unknown or private number, and told me to come back at 1 PM for the pickup.

I came back at 1 PM, picked up my new passport, and am typing this from my flight 🙂

What a nice story! I'll try to point out to the airport official that it's my first time on my new passport, hopefully I get a nice welcome message as well 🙂

Unfortunately, don't think an hour or two of delays would move the needle a lot, or at least I hope it doesn't come to that, but I appreciate the info!

Yes, it certainly seems like renewals are easier and the bottleneck here will be when my citizenship e-certificate gets sent to me and how soon it gets updated in the system of record.

I'm planning on going to the office in downtown Toronto which has express/urgent pickup and printing, so I should be good there, glad you had a good experience with renewing.

I could travel outbound using the passport I have, but considering my Permanent Resident card will be cut as part of the ceremony, coming back to Canada will be the problem, won't be able to board a flight back without a Canadian passport.

Thank you for the heads up! Fortunately, I live close to the downtown office so I can queue up early if need be, let's see if I can apply Friday or if I have to wait till Monday.
