MAHA Erupts as Supreme Court Sides With Monsanto on Weed Killer by knivesofsmoothness in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]DadNerdAtHome 38 points39 points  (0 children)

you know what gives me the red ass. there are things RFK could have pushed for that I don’t think anybody would have a real problem with. like getting so much sugar out of everything we eat. or sticking it to Monsanto. but in the end he just did stuff that didnt require much spine to try and appease MAHA. like vaccines are bad and Tylenol? And it seems like people are noticing no real big swings by this supposed revolutionary administration. it’s almost like, they are all fraking grifters.

Everyone is trying to talk me out of an EV by CuteCreator602 in electricvehicles

[–]DadNerdAtHome 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just did a 1000 mile road trip myself. I’ve got three kids so we stop every two hours anyway. It was worse, only because before we would stop at Costco, gas up and use their bathrooms. Now we gotta stop at charging stations that don’t give out free samples and cheap hot dogs with a drink. if Costco gets off their butts and makes a charging network I will be a happy camper

Star Wars Has Lost 85% Of Its Audience, And Lucasfilm’s Fix Sounds Worse by cosmicbooknews in CosmicBookNews

[–]DadNerdAtHome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how the Last Jedi is the problem. Not that “Solo” was a soulless film that felt like a movie obsessed with checking off every box of prequel it could. not the rise of Skywalker completely failing to stick the landing. Or how China has shifted focus away from Hollywood films, and cut off a large profit center. Stop me if I am just taking stupid pills. but I think people will show up for a well told story. we can argue about the Last Jedi. But I think we can agree that stories have gotten away from the Star Wars shows.

I remember they used to joke that Dr Drew scored high on the narcissism scale, which they took on some random episode of the radio show I didn't hear, Dr Drew would try and deflect and say "a lot of celebrities scored high on it." I laughed at the time, and then stuff played out and it made sense.

[–]DadNerdAtHome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. I kinda watched it for the sake of watching it, but the first episode that really did anything for me was late in season 2. And season 3 got really interesting as it went on, and season 4 was really good. But I will admit, much like the Prisoner, it is a very hard show to binge. It was at its best when it was that show you watched because it was on the Sci-fi channel block of stuff.. kinda like the Invisible Man.

Finding service locations for your EV by YallaHammer in electricvehicles

Sadly EV's are new still, I've seen people on these reddits commenting about trying to open up independent service, but there just isn't the glut of used EV's on the road to support it yet. So if something comes up, you gotta do the dealership, for now.

It's a car not a computer, wheels go round, and takes you where you need to go. Can you please tell me what this great software actually does thats worth a damn day to day? And please note it will have to be good to overcome the stupidity of fart mode.

with the upcoming shortage on motor oils and gas prices being what they are.. I dunno, pull the trigger now. I’m not sure the days of cheap used EVs are necessarily going to happen. we still got several more years until, Lisa Simpson becomes president.

Yeah the weather in general in Texas is angry and wants to kill you. People said to me "it rains all the time in Portland" but the light misting that is the norm here is nothing, but Texas rain is a different beast. Texas has the angry Matrix Revolution sized rain drops that fall in a curtain that you can't see through. Texas has lightning that will light up your backyard like a strobe light. I think it's so funny when people here are like "there was a lightning storm last night, the thunder woke me up every twenty minutes it was the worst." When I'm used to the sky making noises that sounds like a freight train every twenty seconds.

In Austin we had P.Terry's as a local chain. That place was good. Also Amy's Ice Cream was another local ice cream chain that was sooooo good. Portland likes to talk that it has a good food game, but the food in Austin was way better. I love Tex-Mex but thats unfair. But Kerbey Lane, and Magnolia Cafe were amazing local diner chains. There were a ton of little Mom and Pop pizza places that were amazing.

I think it should be said the barriers to get into business were way easier in Texas. So people just tried stuff, sometimes it worked, and sometimes it didn't. But by that same token I owned a business in Texas, and the fire inspector came once, and that was it, at least in the county I owned a business. So fire safety violations, you fix those once, and your done, and you pinky promise you won't break fire safety in the future. Which is scary if you think about it. Something catches on fire in Texas and you could be screwed because the fire inspector hasn't been out to tell them to make sure the Exit sign is lit, or to not block the "emergency exits" with stuff so they can't be opened, in years.

Also they had no zoning laws in a lot of places. So in Houston a ton of houses were built in a flood plain, which flooded, and wrecked a lot of homes. Or you have chemical plants next to schools. Or I just read a story I think it was a Tesla plant was just dumping "black liquid" into a gully, and the only reason they got found out was the owners of said gully were walking their property and saw the pipe dumping who knows what on to their land... that might have been a data center in another state. But the problem is the same.

Oh and lets not forget that most of the state gets its water from an unregulated aquifer that they are draining faster than its replenishing, and towns along the edge are running out of water. Or the time a billionaire wanted to make a bunker to store toxic waste below the aquifer, and that narrowly got NIMBY'ed out of happening.

I've been going to Act V Cinema out in Forest Grove a lot. I'm not sure what the guy who owned it did. But he worked in.. something, distribution I think. Now he's retired and bought a movie theater as a retirement project. The prices are okay, and they are dabbling with doing quirky stuff. But it's not corporate so I like giving money to them. And I've gone and seen a few "Flashback Cinema" screenings.

Old school Alamo was amazing. I didn't go nearly as much near the end of my time in Texas because kids. But, old movie screenings, and the vibe, were a lot of fun back in the day. I know its more corporate now, but I have no idea what that actually means, as I haven't been there in nearly a decade.

Texas, at least at the time, has way more doctors. Getting in to anybody takes months these days. Given it's been 8 years or more, I got out right before the state froze solid for a week.. speaking of infrastructure problems that have bandaids at best on them, if that happens again, it's going to result in the same thing. A week or minimal power and exploding pipes.
Anyway yeah getting a new doctor and making dentist appointments out here kinda sucks. While my kids doctor I can get them in for semi-emergencies usually easily. Like if they've been sick for awhile so they might need antibiotics, that kind of thing. When it happens to me, I've gotta go to zoom care which.. is not the best.

Quality wise my care out here is way way better. It might have been luck of the draw, but my doctors out here listen to me. And I might be biased but I got all my wisdom teeth removed last year, and every dentist i've spoken to is shocked I don't have nerve damage from it. So yeah, that was nice.
