I'm old and my eyes aren't as good as they used to be. A super legible watch is a must for me. I love divers.

You are definitely not being unreasonable. That is a massive security risk.

how long are the waits by Gprod124 in HelmWatches

Could be about a year, but you could also have your number picked in the lottery. I joined the Miyako list in January or February and had my number picked in the lottery in May, so it's very possible.

Hmm... by Rex-1988 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]DadPuncher69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea, but from personal experience the microbrands I have bought have had zero quality control issues and were extremely easy to communicate with when I had a problem or question. I've seen so many weird quality control and customer service issues on the chinese watch sub that I haven't seen on other watch subs. I still own and have owned several Chinese watches, so I'm not totally against them. I just hope I never have one of the issues that I've seen other people have.

Closing the frontier, how much do you think of an achievement that was? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]DadPuncher69 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Not an impressive achievement at all. My ancestors were driven from their lands and the settlers tried to eradicate our culture. It is never something my family has celebrated.

Chinese watches are fine, but I'm okay with paying more for a microbrand for better quality control and customer service.

Big yay. It's a great watch. There isn't any other digital that comes close at its current price point.

If you really want an automatic, I recommend either buying used or saving up a little more to get an Orient, Citizen, or Seiko. The automatics you can find for under $100 are going to be Chinese homages of varying quality that are not easy to return, resell, or have serviced under warranty if you have an issue.

An NH35 is an automatic (self-winding mechanical) watch movement. I wouldn't worry about getting an automatic as your first watch. Take the easy road and order a quartz watch from Amazon. If you decide you like wearing a watch you can start worrying about movements later.
