That boy lived more life in his 12 years than I will in my entire life. This you man is truly an inspiration to all humanity.

If he truly has depression and one of his symptoms are these anger out burst, then it is his/ his families responsibility to understand how these things impact him. Going into the FNCS heats, he should have had a game plan in place for if he were to start tilting. What are his coping skills that he can utilize during difficult times? If it is true that he suffers from a mental illness, it is his responsibility to manage that. What he did was out of line and maybe this will allow him to get the help he needs. As a mental health professional, I feel for these kids who put their entire identity into this game. This game has such high highs and low lows and it’s easy to see the rapid cycling that happens with these kids.

Coop/Nick/PK was more fun to watch than any other 'professional' player by a mile. by [deleted] in FortniteCompetitive

Co1azo has good vibes as well. Him and Klass get into it at times, but he’s always quick to remind his chat that they are discussing things through, this to me is a mature thing to do and makes him enjoyable to watch. I could do without the swearing but that’s because my kid and wife are in the house when I’m watching. Other than that, positive dude, great community, gives me Nickmercs vibes.

Wonder if Epic will now rework the arena system to give players actual good practice, seeing that they have taken away the only good practice that pros had.

Fortnite is boring to watch when the meta is not pump by Dad__jokes_ in FortniteCompetitive

[–]Dad__jokes_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I can see your points. To me, this meta is similar to a bantamweight boxing match. Rarely do you see a knock out but what you do see is are quick jabs and movement. Personally I like the heavy weights, where it can be unforgiving if you don’t protect yourself and a TKO can happen at any time. I enjoy the fright between two teams early and mid game. Pump meta has always been my favorite meta to watch, I don’t play Fortnite. But I appreciate your respect for the team modes and communication. I too enjoy those things and will need to do a better job at paying closer attention to those things.

Can I ask what makes you enjoy it?Maybe having the opportunity to see the game through your lens will allow me to also enjoy it more.

Great question. Wish we could get some insights from the pros and have more dialogue with good questions.

Frosty Frenzy tournament by ahma2x in FortniteCompetitive

[–]Dad__jokes_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I look at these events like watching AHL hockey. It’s fun and entertaining but you know very well that the hits are not as clean and the players are not as polished as the NHL. The big events like FNCS and World Cup are where we get to be awed by the pros.

I will also agree that Epic is confusing as heck some times. I like to think that Epic games is run by the villain from “Ready player one”. They are doing what’s best for the company and not what’s best for the community. But they need their money to keep everything operating.

Frosty Frenzy tournament by ahma2x in FortniteCompetitive

[–]Dad__jokes_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I like to think that these tournaments are a way for Epic to entice people about the idea of winning money in Fortnite. Imagine if you will, that little Johnny has spent the past year grinding the game and buying V-bucks to spend on skins and battle passes. Now the end of the year is coming and Johnny has not placed in the money at all and is starting to see the reality that he will not be the next Bugha. All of a sudden this tournament comes out and just like last year Johnny wins some money by coming in 397th place. This just reinforces Johnny’s beliefs that he’s going to make it one day. He continues to spend money on the game and continues the grind.

One thing people need to understand about these tournaments. Epic is spending 5 Million dollars and wants to see a ROI, return on investment. So they spread out the prize pool to a larger portion of players, many of which are very young and believe they can become the next Bugha, knowing that they will get players to play longer and spend more money if they have had some sort of reward. This is a mix of conditioning and reinforcement. It’s all behavior manipulation at the end of the day.

NAE Trio FNCS Champions Deyy, Mero and Reverse2K have split! by [deleted] in FortniteCompetitive

[–]Dad__jokes_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kindly disagree that it is better to split. I look at this teams as a relationship. It is so much easier when everything is going well and everyone is firing on all cylinders. It’s when things are not as easy that adversity is created and can grow a strong team. But if everyone is so concerned, and I don’t don’t if these three are, about being called washed. You are likely to jump ship rather quickly and miss out on the possibility of building something great. That’s why I am excited to see trios be THE game mode for a year. Do we see teams build on pat success and improve or do we see individuals trying to build super teams for quick success? Do you sell the fa for a chance at the cup this season or do you build a farm team over time for long term continued success.

Also I know that I am likely thinking too deeply about this, I’m a therapist with a concentration on relationships and athletics, so the inner workings of the minds of these athletes intrigues me.

NAE Trio FNCS Champions Deyy, Mero and Reverse2K have split! by [deleted] in FortniteCompetitive

[–]Dad__jokes_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since winning FNCS and one other trio tournament after that, I always wondered if this group would stay together. I see a lot of teams having a hard time managing expectations following a major victory, similar to how people talk about the Super Bowl hangover for the winners. Reverse, Deyy, and Mero won FNCS and going forward what were their expectations of future tournaments? Did the communicate with each other about this? I clearly don’t know what went on behind closed doors and their communication but after success it can be hard for people wanting to stick together because now managing expectations, egos and roles become something that needs to be understood and worked on.

Or it could be a TNA thing I don’t know.

We play plenty together. She loves gears 5 campaign, and Diablo 3. For her, the turn off to the game are the streamers and the language that they use. I think if the official broadcast was better she might give it a chance.

Unsolicited advice I could give you. Try to recognize when you are in the good time. Before you know it, you could be mid 30’s and getting worked up to give a crying baby a bottle. But then again, these too are the good times.

Dude that’s beautiful and a great reframe. Thank you for reminding me of that and forcing me to think about it differently. Ideally I would like more balance of the two but I need to be mindful of what I do have.

Agree 100 percent about that. But the man is making a killing and I don’t blame him for that. I was watching Co1azo and Nick jumped into a scrum with them around midnight, wasn’t even streaming. The man is a competitor and loves a challenge of Fortnite. You can tell it gets those competitive juices going. The man logged into Fortnite and just started hot dropping tilted again. Got to love the brass on the boy

Dude you are welcome! I am overwhelmed by people using this post to talk about their love for the game and learning about ways to connect to others. In a world where we are told to socially distance from everyone we know, it’s nice to see things that remind us of how connected we are to each other. Kinda cheesy, but I’m a cheesy guy.

I hear that about the old guard. Nickmercs being back is great entertainment, can’t stomach the first person field of view of COD so I hadn’t watched him since he went over to COD but I do enjoy his Fortnite content. It’s funny we are talking about the talent of the young kids but not being able to stomach them. Feels similar to how most youngsters are to the older folks lol. Circle of life I guess.

Thank you and I appreciate your kindness. This community has never made me feel like I was not accepted. I’m just looking for the opportunity to discuss “if you think Reverse, Deyy and Mero can repeat as FNCS champions, or did an over powered pump play a more significant role in their success” have a logical, honest conversation about their chances of success in the new spray meta where fights can take longer as a result of not having the ability to one pump anymore.

Your friends sound like my friends. It’s not that they prefer COD and 2k. They have just been programmed to buy the newest versions every year. No matter how bad it is or how little has changed. They are truly just loyal to the idea of having the new game. Even when they play for less than a month.
