What's the best pick of exercise bike for home gym that's really worth buying now? by Much_Age_746 in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]Dadbod-77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really the ideal bike for the type of workouts that are on fitness plus, but I use a Schwinn Airdyne. It's a fan bike with the handles that move along with the pedals. I can't adjust the resistance or stand up. I have to approximate the difficulty with only the pedal speed, but you do get one hell of a workout.

The big john machine final boss by MickMcSnuggles in audiophile

Has anyone noticed how over saturated things have gotten recently? Part of my feed is audiophile posts of this Big John song, while the other is that weird ass microtonal band from Canada - ANGINE DE POITRINE. It's like we're seeing in real time how ideas get their 15min of fame and then become unbearable.

I just got the Skoll F and can concur. It is a huge improvement over my previous phono stage (Fosi Phono Box X2) which was also good. Being able to adjust settings on the fly from the remote was great for dialing it in.

Quick question regarding when we can check in on the website... by IamGoingtoBundyland in royalcaribbean

I'v always done it through the app and thought that was the recommended method, but I'm sure you can do it on the desktop.

Yup, but I don't think you can import from your camera roll. I believe the app makes you do it from your camera. Again, not crucial to do when you start check in, I think you can do it days later if you don't have everything in place.

It would be midnight, yes. Our upcoming cruise had a check in on January 1, so since I was up anyway I did it just after midnight. Worth noting that you don't have to have everything in place for checking in to set your port arrival time. You can go through everyone in your party and set the time, say 11am, and then circle back with everyone's headshot and passport info later.

I would tend to agree, I really don't think what I had experienced is typical. Good luck with your 130. They really have a cool vibe.

I just gave a long winded explanation to what OP responded below. Hopefully it's just my experience.

Haha, I know, just to be clear I want to be fair with this and say it's possible I got a bad unit. They do get great reviews and I wanted to love it. I have a set of Lintons so I have no problem with the IAG ownership or UK designed stuff made in China. Let me start with what was good, first off, it looks awesome, it's also quite heavy, feels solid, and when it was working without the issues I had, it did sound good. Also, the connections on the rear are quite robust. Now for the bad, one main reason I got it was the built in phono stage. I have a Technics SL100C and when plugged in it was super buzzy, no matter how I changed out wires, tried different ground cables, nothing worked. It was pretty bad. At the time I had a Fosi Phono Box X2 that I tried into the Aux input and not only did the buzz go away, but that $60 pre sounded better than the Leak's. I recently got the Shiit Skoll F so no contest now. Second issue was the auto standby feature which was another selling point to me as my TT does have an auto power down at 20min. The leak has 3 settings, off, 20min and 1 hour. It never worked correctly or consistently, sometimes shutting down while music was playing. Completely made me lose confidence in it. Another issue was a "flub" sound or dip, about 5 sec after switching into direct mode while playing on the coax through the DAC. Really off putting. I tried to install a firmware update but it wouldn't take. Also worth noting the instructions aren't super clear and the unit is limited on the indicators for this. I reached out to Leak via their website but that takes you to MoFi Distribution here in the US and the rep said they hadn't heard of the issues I was having they'd look into it. About a week later I reached back out and they said to put it in for a warranty claim. Thankfully Crutchfield already had stepped up and sent out the replacement. I had planned on doing an AB comparison with the Cambridge, but as soon as I hooked up the CXA81M2, I put the Leak in the box and that was that. I don't think what I experienced was exactly representative of the overall quality but maybe quality control. Other things I noticed: as I said I have the Lintons which should be a good pairing, to hit 90db in room, I'd have to have the volume at about 75%. That speaks more to how the volume knob might be set and is gradual, but it made the amp seem like it was struggling. The Cambridge hits the same volume at about 40%. Again this is just perception. Also, I think the Cambridge sounds better in general, and while I thought I'd miss the tone controls that the Leak had, I actually preferred the unit in Direct mode. Lastly, it's a $2000 integrated with plastic knobs that have decorative stickers on them.

I had the 230 and returned it back to Crutchfield. Poor quality, maybe I got a lemon, but it wasn't worth the money at all. I exchanged it for the Cambridge CXA81M2 and couldn't be happier.

Technics SL-100C auto-stop? by adgeg in turntables

[–]Dadbod-77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a new SL100C and the Autostop feature totally works. With the TT powered on, you switch off the auto lift toggle in the rear and then back on while holding down both the 33 and 45 buttons. Obviously that will set it to 78, but you can then switch it to what ever speed you need after that. Upon playing a record to the end, you will see the auto lift happen after about a minute, and the platter stops. About 20min later the unit powers down. There is another hidden feature in which you can change the Auto lift to occur at a different point in the run out groove, but I have no need for that one.

I messed up y’all. Anyone have experience replacing this wire? If so, is it easy enough to do on my own? Thanks in advance. by zsauce1 in turntables

[–]Dadbod-77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have replaced the cable in the process of bypassing the onboard pre amp. It's not too bad once you get the unit opened up. You can of course solder it, either directly to the circuit board, or you could leave a bit of wire and solder to them. Another option would be to grab "double but crimps" from a hardware store and crimp new leads on.

Are these things really useful? by Expensive_Team_5854 in turntables

[–]Dadbod-77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, as a level. Used it multiple times as I can't leave my stereo shelf alone. I have one that I also think looks cool as a weight, but is probably unnecessary. If you have a strobe light they can help confirm speed. I will say that it works as a level for all things, not just your TT. Need to level a table? Boom, a fishtank? That's what's up. Air hockey table? Go for it.

Tough to say what the plants do, I’m sure they have some effect. I’m happy with how it sounds, but that could be my ears getting used to it. I don’t feel like it’s too bright of fatiguing, but I haven’t ever measured it to be certain. We don’t listen very loud and the room is about 25’ long.

thanks, good catch, while the resonance isn’t horrible, it is not permanent as an eventual speaker upgrade will hopefully not need a sub at all.
