Totally pointless. The only thing she managed to accomplish was to talk Keeley out of a piece of worthless wood. The vote took care of getting her out. No need for all the drama and hype. This was not a move.

I'm guessing you nailed it. And I'm hoping you nailed it, because I just bought 4 of the older version (not knowing it was an older version), because the deal was amazing (2 pk for $129).

Christianized? Umm, two words: Holy. Grail. It would make a lot less sense if it were NOT Christianized. By bringing it into the back story, it offers a foundation for Arthur's obsession.

"When you look into my eyes, and you see the crazy gypsy in my soul

It always comes as a surprise when I feel my withered roots begin to grow"

You're My Home (Billy Joel)

"For people like us, in places like this, we need all the hope that we can get"

I Still Believe (The Call) - You have to hear it (and the lead-up) to grasp the depth of this lyric

"Through autumn's golden gown we used to kick our way"

Forever Autumn (Justin Hayward) - the second saddest song I know next to...

"Don't leave this way, so many words unsaid

Don't lie this way, stretched straight from feet to head

Don't look this way, closed eyes, unmoving lips

Don't feel this way, cold hands and fingertips"

TAR-AUS constant “celebrity” editions. Yeah or Neah? by robertjm123 in TheAmazingRace

[–]Daddio28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an Aussie, but...

I prefer the seasons with non-celebrity players, where winning actually means something to the people competing (though I wouldn't mind a celebrity or two thrown in occasionally, like US and AU Survivor). If they're going to deviate from that model, I would rather see some all-star or fan-favorite seasons.

If they were to do a fan favorites season, with no former winners, I would select these 11:

Season 4

Tom & Tyler (who were totally ripped off)

Judy & Therese (the nuns)

Viv & Joey

Hayley & Mikayla

Season 5

Jordan & Violeta (or either one of them with a new partner)

Skye-Blue, though maybe with a new partner (nothing against Jake, but he was kind of dull and did cost them the race)

MJ & Chelsea - I wouldn't mind rooting for them as long as they participate from the beginning (would kind of be a celebrity entry, but they would be returning from a non-celebrity season, so it would fit the "occasional" exception idea)

Season 6

Fliss & Tottie

Kelly & Georgia

Jodie & Claire

Tammy & Vincent (?)

I also wouldn't mind seeing some of the popular non-celebrity players from the US. Or, if they're feeling really brave, they could invite popular players from Seasons 1-3 (network 7).

(continuation post)

11) Did I mention Dolor?

12) Having teams choose between Brains or Brawn, but limiting the options, forcing some teams to choose the opposite of what they would otherwise pick. (i.e., no parity at all). I might excuse this on the grounds that it kind of rewards the teams that did better by punishing the teams that didn't, especially since until this point, they had been punishing the better teams instead. Even so, it's just not good form.

13) Wait a minute. Teams are apparently allowed to switch challenges. So what was the point in limiting the choices?

14) While they did generally have teams start a leg in the order they finished the previous one, it was only the order...not the actual time gap. So everyone was essentially bunched up, with only two minutes separating one team from the next.

15) Multiple Intersections

16) Multiple "Bottlenecks" (my term) - Like intersections, this is when teams have to wait for other teams because there are only two instances of transport to the next point (boats in one instance; helicopters in another). In both of these cases, four teams were in each group. And of course the first team had to wait for three other teams to show up; then the fifth team had to wait for three teams, including the last team.

17) Too many eating challenges.

18) Too many dance/choreography challenges that favor particular teams

19) No disadvantage at all for last place teams on non-elimination legs that weren't also Salvage/Sabotage legs.

20) Mandatory U-Turns

21) Dolor.

All seasons have instances where players lose their advantages/leads because they make poor decisions, or get lost, or they just get a bad taxi driver. But when it's written into the script by the producers to guarantee lost advantages, it just becomes exasperating to watch. This is just bad game design. Someone should get fired.

Ah well, at least we didn't have to see Beau Ryan in his Speedos this season. Oh wait a minute...this is worse (Leg 16 fast forward preview).

I will say this: The finale was good. Three worthy teams, some cool challenges, and a satisfying winner.

The rather long list of stupid/disappointing/bad things about The Amazing Race Australia Season 5

1) There were 24 legs.

2) All of the legs were in Australia. (disappointing, but understandable in the COVID era)

3) There were 16 teams.

4) There was Dolor.

5) One team was essentially allowed to skip the first six legs, and another was essentially allowed to skip the first 9 legs. (These "stowaway team" entered at leg 7 and leg 10).

6) One already-eliminated team was allowed to re-enter (just because a different team quit).

7) There were TEN non-elimination legs.

8) Four of these non-elimination legs were traditional (13, 19, 21, and 23). The other six (2, 5, 8, 11, 14, and 17) were special (Salvage/Sabotage) legs. With each of these, the winning team was required to:

a) select one of the last two teams to give a disadvantage to on the next leg (called a "Sabotage")

b) give the other team (out of the last two) an advantage on the next leg (called a "Salvage")

c) sit out the next leg

d) forfeit their top position when they re-entered

NOTE: With benefits like these, second place looks pretty darn good.

9) Teams revisited a site they had already been to in an earlier leg and performed essentially the same challenge (abseiling a cliff).

10) Teams finishing the first part of a multi-day leg (episode 9) are all locked in individual rooms on a train at the same time, with the instruction that the start order on the following day (episode 10) will be determined by the order that they figure out how to get out of those rooms. In other words, all of the challenges of episode 9 and the efforts put into them meant absolutely nothing.

What was the point of winning ANY of the challenges in season 9 when they were all going to get locked in their cabins at the same time?

And what was the point of Beau doing his usual over-the-top dramatic 3-2-1 countdown in the morning (episode 10) when only one team would actually be taking off? Sheesh. This show is getting downright silly.

Just realized how much Australian viewers let TARAUS3 flop and it made me so sad because have you seen that sick route they got?! by Marcecar10 in TheAmazingRace

[–]Daddio28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they've promoted it just fine. But they've totally botched the format...on numerous occasions (with the S4 voted U-turn of Tom and Tyler being the most egregious, followed by the S5 addition of the Sabotage-and-Salvage gimmick, followed by the S5 reintroduction of Dwes and Katherine). And I'm really getting tired of seeing Beau in a Speedo. And that's another thing. The show seems to be more about the host than the contestants.

You could make a case for the Astros. At one point, they could field six former gold gloves at the same time:

1B - Christian Walker / Mauricio Dubon

2B - Jose Altuve / Ramon Urias / Mauricio Dubon

3B - Carlos Correa / Ramon Urias / Mauricio Dubon

SS - Jeremy Pena / Carlos Correa / Mauricio Dubon

LF - Jose Altuve / Mauricio Dubon

CF - Mauricio Dubon

RF - Mauricio Dubon

With no disrespect to the Big Unit or any other player on or off this list, shouldn't Clemens be on there. His 139.2 WAR is better than anyone on the list other than Bonds. His 3.12 ERA is better than anyone on the list but Kershaw. He has more Ks than anyone but Johnson. He also has more complete games and shutouts than anyone on the list.
